Submission + - Streaming election night broadcast TV?

kakapo writes: A couple of years ago, we dumped our cable TV, and don't have much luck getting old-fashioned broadcast where we live. That's fine — we can download or netflix almost anything we want to see, and it is great not to pay the Comcast tax every month. Problem is, now I want to watch the election live, complete with talking heads, pundits, glitzy graphics and all the rest, rather than reading about it on a website. So, is there any way to download network TV / CNN / MSNBC in real time — I don't mind paying. And yes, we could visit friends, but ideally our kids would watch the first part and then go to bed — and a sitter would be expensive if we have to wait until late for the result.

Submission + - Anti-Virus Software for a Business

Bithmus writes: There was a recent post asking about "Reliable, Free Anti-Virus Software? ", http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/10/25/195256. It seems that most people prefer to use AVG. I use AVG for all of my and my friends computers. One of those friends recently asked me if I thought he could get away with dumping Norton or McAfee for the 20 or 30 computers at the small business he runs? (Note that there is no way his employees could switch to Linux.) Is there any downside to using a free Anti-Virus package in a business?

Submission + - Phone Scammers busting out new ploys

An anonymous reader writes: The Dish people are changing up their game. Sitting in for the receptionist at my company, in one day alone I've received at least two calls about warranty coverage expiration, and seven or eight about Dish Network. Most disturbing was the newest message, "We are scheduled to install your Dish system, and need to verify delivery information. Press 1 now." The warranty calls are just as bad, claiming "Your vehicle warranty will expire tomorrow unless you press 1 now!". I usually press 1 and toy with them, in the latest case the company was Warrantech. Surely there are legal ways to kill off these kind of predatory schemes?

Submission + - In Alabama, Sex Toys are Just Like Prostitution

An anonymous reader writes: A federal appeals court has upheld an Alabama law banning the sale of sex toys against a claim that the law conflicted with the Supreme Court's prior holding that private sexuality is protected by the Constitution. The court reasoned that, because sex toys are bought and sold in "public" transactions, selling them is just like prostitution, and therefore it could be banned.

Submission + - Hacks no longer joking matter at MIT

ecklesweb writes: The Boston Globe reprots that Hacks are no longer a joke at MIT. Three students tripped an alarm while "exploring" the Faculty Club under the cover of dark. Instead of fines or community service, the three students face up to 20 years in prison on charges of felony breaking and entering and trespassing. Of course, maybe it's just *botched* hacks that are no joke at MIT...
