And yes, you should keep notes of all the expenses you make with your credit-card and communicate this with your trusted person. A debit-card and ATM-machines work better, most of the times. (Mastercard or Visa). Use only ATM-machines in banks during office-hours.

If you want to be connected:
In most of the Latin countries you can get prepaid "Banda Hancha". Most of them work with a Huawei-modem.

"Keep in mind that many places have very poor bandwidth and latency."

I don't know what this has to do with security of your data.

It is also not my personal experience. (I live in rural South Chile). To get a new release of my OS takes 24 hours on broadband. If I go to the next village, I'm ready in an hour by hooking up my laptop to the Internet-Cafe infrastructure.

If you want to keep a blog, do it via http://www.posterous.com./ Blogging via email, perfect if you don't know when you will hook up to the Internet again. Of course you use an email-client.

From a practical musicians point of view:

It is a kind of sport to know who is playing the sax whenever I hear a recording. This is not only sound but also phrasing, tempo and melody. (Some Jazz-recordings are pretty bad in sound quality, but it is always nice to hear Charlie Parker for ex.).

Most of the people I meet cannot even hear the difference between a soprano, alto, tenor or bariton sax.
It is the same with the violin-family or with the flute-family.
An oboe and clarinet are sounding the same to a lot of people.

Music like language has a lot of redundancy.

Comment Reading glasses (Score 1) 549

They are not reading glasses in the classical sense. They are 'computer-screen-glasses'.

You should tell your ophthalmologist or optician that you want lenses to read a computer screen that is about 60 cm away (measure your normal distance). A book or newspaper you read from a distance of 30 cm.

It means that you have to buy special glasses for computer-work.
If you do a lot of computer-work it is really worth it. It saves your back and good spirit.

Most ophthalmologists and/or opticians are not aware of this. But they know about the problems of performing classical musicians reading their score.

As out of first hand experience I can say that it is like that in the Netherlands, probably in EC as a whole.
Also in Latin-America. I know this immediate transfer to another bank-account is also possible in Chile, probably in Argentina and Brazil too.

Each land has so its own little banking-tradition, as if money is not international.
For example in Chile you can not open a useful bank-account (cuenta corriente) the first year of your legal stay. Even if you own a registered Chilean Company.

Pricing strategies vary from country to country, even when you deal with the same bank.

It is still a mess, not only how they invest, but also how they deal with customers.

What is a wave?

A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.
