Comment Re:Request a blood test (Score 1) 498

It looks like you misunderstood what I and several others have been trying to say. Being a responsible adult means either designating someone to be a designated driver or arranging some other way of getting yourself and your girl home after an evening of boozing it up. It's really not that difficult to do, but it does require a little effort and some forethought. If you can't do that, then you deserve to suffer whatever happens to come your way ... I just hope that you don't kill or injure anyone else when you decide to DUI/DWI.

Comment Re:Request a blood test (Score 3, Insightful) 498

If a grown man is dangerously-close to the legal limit, he needs to hand the keys over to someone more responsible. Chances are, if he does choose to DUI, nothing will happen. However, there's always a chance he will cause an accident and seriously injure or kill someone. DUI is a serious crime and 100% preventable, all you have to do is act like a responsible adult and hand your keys to someone who is not under the influence. In that case you will not have to worry about getting that DWI on your record. The only person who is to blame for a DUI/DWI conviction is the person who gets drunk or high and gets behind the wheel of a car.

Comment Re:When comon sends makes no sense (Score 1) 706

Getting killed by a drunk driver isn't "bad luck" and it's not an accident. The drunk made a conscious decision to get drunk or drugged up and then get behind the wheel. They made a conscious decision ... You don't accidentally get drunk. It's the same as some idiot walking down the street firing off a rifle. He might not hit anyone the first few times he does it, however it's highly likely that one day, he will. The blatant disregard that people who commit DWI/DUI have for the lives of others is absolutely disgusting. The excuses and apologies that other people make for them are almost as disgusting. Drunk drivers who kill people should be locked up in prison for the rest of their lives.
I've heard all of the arguments you've made many times before. You're not going to change my mind ... And I'm not letting my emotions cloud my judgement. I've seen far too many innocent people harmed by idiots who think they can knock back a few shots of whiskey and a few beers with the guys after work, then climb in to their car and go driving. Alcohol and driving NEVER mix. Too many people excuse DWI because alcohol is a legal drug and consuming it in excess is an acctable practice in the USA and other countries. Unfortunately, not enough people are mature and responsible enough to handle it.

Comment Re:When comon sends makes no sense (Score 1) 706

The topic of this discussion is not incompetent drivers, the people we are talking about are the ones who make the conscious decision to get drunk, get in their car and go driving down the road. Drunk driving is something that can be prevented- as long as people act like responsible adults. Unfortunatelty, too many people do not do that. For that reason the penalties should be much greater than they are now. Drunk drivers have no respect for the lives of the other people on the roads.

Comment Re:When comon sends makes no sense (Score 2) 706

The law will prosecute you to the fullest extent if you're slightly over the legal alcohol limit, but could care less that a blind old lady shouldn't be driving on the roads. So alcohol is more dangerous than incompetent drivers? I've seen more accidents from people who don't pay attention to the road because they are too busy playing with the radio, eating a burger and fries, putting on makeup, etc. etc. I've driving intoxicated before, and I was very careful driving when I was, but you can't always avoid an idiot on the road. but because I had a few drinks, it's automatically my fault.

In 1981 my 17 year old cousin was brutally killed by someone just like you. DWI is a serious crime and deserves severe penalties- much much more severe than the penalties we have now. Drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea and no matter how "careful" you are. If you're out on the road, driving while intoxicated you absolutely deserve to be punished. If you injure or kill someone while out on the road, you should spend the rest of your life behind bars. DWI is a totally preventable crime and one that only idiots commit.

oops ... forgot to add this comment to my initial post. I grew up in a rural area near a small town. There were 100 people in my high school graduating class. I had known more than half of them since kindergarten ... so by the time I had graduated, I was pretty much ready to leave them behind and meet some new and interesting people. I'm sure many of them think/thought the same thing about me also, hahaha, but that does not matter to me at all.

I graduated from high school in 1988, went away to college and have pretty much been away from my home town since then. I kept up with some of my high school friends for a few years, but I've made new and better friends since then. I got back in touch with a few high school friends on Facebook and we communicate from time to time and that's just perfect. I didn't go to either of my reunions (10 or 20 year) simply because I had no interest in going. It might have been nice to go out of morbid curiosity, but aside from that, I decided it was not worth the effort. Heck, it's been so long and I've had so many new and more exciting experiences that I barely remember anything about those 4 years (less than 10%) of my life. Things change, people. Get over it.

I used to think Facebook was pointless ... however, a friend convinced me to use it and I signed up. I actually like it ... yes, yes, yes, I know all about the supposedly "horrific" privacy violations and all of that jibberish. However, as someone mentioned above, I couldn't care less whether or not some marketing drone knows I like Whole Foods. Anything I post about or talk about on Facebook is something those people would have found out in some other way. With a little self control, and some common sense, you are not going to get yourself into trouble by using social media sites like Facebook. I have met many people on Facebook that I would not have met otherwise- and yes I have met the majority of the people on my friends list face-to-face, including the ones who live outside of the US.
