Gas was hovering between $2.4 and $3 between 2016 and 2020: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/h...
(current prices are falling fast to be at similar levels soon)
And I think you are forgetting about the single worst single market day loss in history in June, 2016, $2 trillion. But sure, go ahead and keep lying to yourself about what it was like during those times.

Testing in the womb brings a large risk of something going wrong. Why not wait a few months then test when the baby is born? I don't understand the reason why it has to be a pre-birth test, unless the parents would want to abort if this (prrobably) highly flawed test gives a result they are not happy with, but that would be crazy.

Yes, I remember reading about the use of so called 'AI' writing fact based news articles as long as a few years ago. This is definitely not new. I think what might be the cause of this new pause on stories written by AI is the rapid emergence of the latest suite of image and text AI, and the triggering of emotions caused by them. The news stories AI is just getting swept up in the collateral.

Fixed the last line of the summary. I use Affinity Photo: no monthly subscription fees and a low cost perpetual license. I have also gotten all my updates for free for the last couple of years. I don't usually like to give shout outs to particular products, but in this case I feel it was necessary to help as many people as possible move away from the Adobe mothership.

I was thinking the same thing. Consider this quote from Nadella: "We have to get past what we describe as 'productivity paranoia,' because all of the data we have that shows that 80% plus of the individual people feel they're very productive -- except their management thinks that they're not productive."
I don't understand what all this talk about "feelings" is. Most companies worth their salt should have actual hard data metrics to gauge whether output of work is more or less than what it was before. It is the same or more, then screw the "feelings" of these mangers, it means way too little to care about, and probably points to the fact that they are redundant!

And I say all of this as a supervisor in the VFX industry who loves WFH, and fully supports the right for anyone else to do the same.

Comment Forced market slowdown (Score 1) 27

I am thinking (with no evidence) that this is an attempt to force the slow down of the jobs market. Right now, it is a booming time for employees, lot's of job opportunities and mobility, and the big employers are thinking that this can't continue despite as previously stated by Slashdot posters that many companies now have more cash than ever before. So they are artificially slowing down growth, so that all the little worker bees come crawling back to a job market that is now in favour of the employers who can offer more 'palatable' wages.

Of course, this is just a theory.

I was thinking the same thing. Even if this business fails and he can not convince people to start another business with him, he needn't have to work another day for the rest of his life. Just be an angel investor and live off the profits and interest.

I wish I could be that delusional.

Actually, I know for a fact that around 20% of the shots in the Mandalorian shot in the volume stage were 'final pixels', as in, no post was done after the fact. And that is only the start, as I know for a fact that two other high profile shows currently in production are aiming for around 50% of the shots to be 'final pixels', but I can't say what shows as that would invalidate my NDA (I work in VFX on shows that uses real time graphics).

That was a thoroughly entertaining read, thanks! Also, on an unrelated note, a great reminder that AI is very far away from replacing journalists like this. I doubt that an AI would have included the following line:
"Until there! On the horizon! It's Hammer Woman, avenger of oppressed cable subscribers everywhere! (Cue galloping "Lone Ranger" theme.)"
