Not necessarily.

Some groups of people - mostly those of Jewish Scottish Russian or many Asian backgrounds - tend to be investors in good times and bad, and they accumulate wealth regardless of the economic cycle.

I think I'm putting away something like $50,000 a year in retirement contributions right now. I only adjust my asset mix depending on projections of risk reward (when others overbuy bonds (now), I don't).

Most capital gains taxes don't tax retirement accounts up to a certain level, or home value appreciation.

Last time I checked the UW (here) holds something like 42 basic patents for different battery technologies that can be licensed at a fairly inexpensive cost.

All types of materials, operating ranges, discharge curves.

However, there are other methods: pumped water up an incline, compressed air, flywheels - all of which store massive amounts of energy today, and are in use worldwide.

See, this is called energy distribution, or why WA OR sell CA our wind and hydro energy and CA sells us their solar.

(caveat - even in Seattle, I own 12 solar units on 4 projects, so some of our daily energy consumption is from our own solar, yes even on cloudy days (light cloud cover, tends not to snow over here, so 70-80 percent gets collected))

We have these things called interties, and part of the fire damage was repaired so we could buy/sell electricity up and down the coast.

Comment The major problem is need 4x renewables/year (Score 1) 217

the major problem is that we literally need to quadruple renewables in 2022, and each year from 2023 to 2030.

Not just doubling by 2025.

But quadrupling by 2023. And quadrupling in 2023. And quadrupling in 2034. Until 2030 inclusive.

Every GHG emission you make now will stay in the atmosphere for 20-500 years (CO2 is 50 years).

So all this climate change is happening because of emissions from 1945 to 2020.

It's already in the system, powering climate events.

Submission + - Apple facing class-action suit over AirTags (npr.org)

Theaetetus writes: A class-action suit was filed Monday in the U.S. Northern District Court of California with two plaintiffs who said Apple's AirTags made it easier for them to be stalked and harassed.

The complaint contends, "[w]hat separates the AirTag from any competitor product is its unparalleled accuracy, ease of use (it fits seamlessly into Apple's existing suite of products), and affordability. With a price point of just $29, it has become the weapon of choice of stalkers and abusers."

Apple stated in February 2022 that, "We have been actively working with law enforcement on all AirTag-related requests we’ve received...
Every AirTag has a unique serial number, and paired AirTags are associated with an Apple ID. Apple can provide the paired account details in response to a subpoena or valid request from law enforcement. We have successfully partnered with them on cases where information we provided has been used to trace an AirTag back to the perpetrator, who was then apprehended and charged."

According to the complaint, neither of the plaintiffs appear to have used this process.
