Anti-piracy is squeezing the legitimate user once again. The new Bioshock game from 2K Studios only allows you to install the game twice, no ifs ands or buts. Even though the "Update" for the article says that 2K has replied with a solution, if you read the following forum posts, users have tried the fix and has not been confirmed to work. You might want to hurry before the thread is locked and or deleted, like so many others. This might fuel the fires of piracy, to give legitimate customers a work around until they get the official company line.

Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/gaming/more-bioshock-shock/) and others (http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t =5527) are reporting that the PC version of Bioshock is loaded with new DRM from Securom which limits users to just two installs.
2K are saying that if users come up against the limit they should contact Securom — but Securom are referring people back to 2K according to NoFrag. http://www.nofrag.com/images/00311b.jpg
Where does this leave the doctrine of first sale? Is this ushering in a new era of restrictive protection on AAA titles?

Kotaku reports that the long-awaited spiritual successor to System Shock has a few shocks for any PC gamers who want to buy it. Customers are discovering that the 'SecuROM' anti-copying technology will only permit them to install the game twice, after which the DVD becomes nothing more than an expensive coaster. As PC Gamers are renowned for rebuilding and reinstalling their machines on a regular basis, it is clear that this will only hurt legitimate players.

Word on the tech support forums at 2K is that the good folks at SecuROM are limiting you to two online activations of that PC version of Bioshock you just bought. If you're one of those folks in the habit of regularly formatting your hard drive or upgrading your PC, you might want to keep that in mind before you find yourself with a $50 drink coaster. Oh well, this is sure to deter piracy, isn't it?

Theres a lot of people posting on the 2k Games forums that the copy protection used in Bioshock, (SecuROM), only allows 2 activations.
How many installs do we get? Transfer of ownership?
Re-use of activation code on new PC?
I'm all for companies protecting their income/IP, but only allowing 2 activations seems a tad draconian.
The company has yet to respond to anyone in the forums about the activation issue (though they have responded that they are looking into some of the other problems that usually go with a new release).
Hopefully they'll address the "2 activation's" issue somehow, as it's the only reason I'll be waiting before getting a copy of what looks like an absolute cracker of a game otherwise.
