Comment Re:Upgraded, al is good (Score 3, Interesting) 37

One thing I was able to do a few years ago was pull data from badly corrupt media. Linux would panic on read (and sometimes on mount), same for FreeBSD and NetBSD.

So I decided to try Rump on NetBSD think "what the heck". I read up on it, loaded it, crash. But the system stayed active so I tried again and again, after multiple tries I was able to get 90% of the file. Saved me from trying to re-create the doc.

It is not a container or a jail but something unique, you can use it to develop/test things that would crash a system.

I think there is is no need for a transmission for EVs. I remember reading about this long ago about how electric vehicles 100+ years ago claimed that as an advantage. Do modern EVs have a transmission ? I kind of doubt it.

Congratulations to the team, I just upgraded to 10.0 and all is good. NetBSD has some unique items that no other free UN*X has, one I found useful is the rump kernel.

Also as time is going on, based upon what I have been seeing lately, it could very well be the only UN*X that will run on older systems in the near future. I expect eventually it will be the only game in town for 32 bit hardware.

All this does is allow the authorities drag in innocence people for questioning and force many to use a VPN too.

How will GM proves this ? Until GM fully opens their firmware, I will not believe this. In fact even if the do I will not believe this. Look at how many times M/S said Windows 11 has no spyware but has been proven that is a lie.

With all the spyware being added to Cars, the expense of new cars and the complexity of maintenance, most people will keep their old beaters instead of buying new.

Remote Login with RDP

Yet another step to the "microsoftization" of Linux. Network transparency was always much better than RDP, but over the last couple of decades, the youngsters did not understand it and started moving to a M/S Windows model. So here we are with RDP and we already have binary logs and a kind of windows registry.

World would be a much different world if a cheap, good COBOL was around in the early 90s. IIRC, the FSF refused to help fund a COBOL in the early days. This was due to elitism.

Many people were begging for a good COBOL for PCs and Linux in the early days, but all that was available were versions that cost thousands. Glad to see it is here now, will be good for young people needing to learn it for Mainframes.

Why not break up this batch into smaller pieces that would be guaranteed to burn up on re-entry? Or is that not feasible for some reason?

How would this be done ? You realize the people on the space station have no gravity :) So per Newton, they hit something with an axe or hammer, they will also fly off somewhere. And they will need to chase tiny pieces and acid drops (batteries) that will be floating everywhere. Never mind what could happen if the miss the junk with the axe of hammer.
