ianalis writes: xkcd commemorates Yahoo! Geocities' demise today by changing the look of the site to be more like a typical Geocities-hosted site.

To be pedantic, that is true unless there is an isolated cluster of humans and the most likely case that would happen is if there is an undiscovered (by someone in the spanning cluster) and isolated civilization somewhere. Also, the six degrees of separation is the average path length and not the diameter of the network. Nevertheless, six degrees of separation is an excellent argument against suspecting people solely due to association with "terrorists."

No problem with the coverage here in the Philippines. Up to just recently, my research is on remote control of scientific and biomedical devices over IP networks including GSM, 2.5G and 3G networks. We were able to do telemicroscopy using a phone. We're now in the second year of a grant to design and deploy telehealth devices to underserved areas. If everything works as expected, it would surely help a lot of people and personally give me a lot of satisfaction.

The scientific community told me that light is a particle, then a wave, then a particle, now, both a particle and a wave. So, sorry for being skeptical of an organization that has asked me to trust them every time they change their story.

Being a skeptic is good but too much skepticism, or more appropriately, unreasonable suspiciousness, is cynicism.

P.S. I'm not an american and does not follow the intricate details and controversies of 9/11.

Barack Obama Wins US Presidency 3709

Last night, around 11pm, all the major networks announced that Senator Barack Obama had won the election. Soon after, Senator McCain conceded. There were no crazy partisan court hearings, just a simple election. This is your chance to talk about it and what it means for the future of our nation.

Submission + - Japanese cellphones to turn into 'robot' buddies (inquirer.net)

ianalis writes: "Even us lonely geeks need to talk to someone sometimes. Now, the Japanese company Softbank is going to release a mobile phone that can literally transform into an anthropomorphic robot. Not only does it look like a humanoid, it has also a sufficient AI to be able to talk to a person. So, who needs another person in the other side when talking on a phone?"
