Submission + - Enlightening the boss to better ways?

Dragon_Eater writes: "Dear Ask Slashdot,
I am working in a small office that has 15 computers and 6 laptops as well as an IP based phone system. The problem is that the company is less than 10 years old and the "IT Guy" is 100% self taught on how to do everything and never in the office as he is really a field tech. Our network is well run and terminated to a very tidy looking data rack but our server room is quite sad looking with four older ( think P III and maybe one P4 ) computers hosting a 40G server space and print server.
How could I feasibly go about getting my boss to see the light and migrate the servers over to an in-house employee who can fix things quickly rather than calling the field guy in every 2 days when one of the servers needs a reboot?

Thanks for your time,
Dragon"

It could work if all your projcts were episodic in nature. If you never had to revisit old code or have more that one person work on a project at a time. Think your favorite fast food place, they change managment constatly but because the problems they face never last more that a shift at a time it works out

Personally I think it's more of an issue when the ISS HAS more than one toilet in the first place!! Why on a craft so space constranined would you add a second washroom?!? Myabe for backup purposes but the fact that they went throught the entire process of putting a second one up there leaves me baffeled!
