I have to agree. Right now my feeling is this: If you really feel the need to see me naked, Mr TSA Guy, then I might as well give everyone a show and strip right here. Why should the guys in the booth have all of the fun?
All we really need to do is just casually talk to the other passengers about how much they see when you go through the scanner. I'm sure that you will find many more people willing to opt out, of course you should also be vocal about how they are feeling you up while they "pat you down"

2012 Mayan Calendar 'Doomsday' Date Might Be Wrong 144

astroengine writes "A UC Santa Barbara associate professor is disputing the accuracy of the mesoamerican 'Long Count' calendar after highlighting several astronomical flaws in a correlation factor used to synchronize the ancient Mayan calendar with our modern Gregorian calendar. If proven to be correct, Gerardo Aldana may have nudged the infamous December 21, 2012 'End of the World' date out by at least 60 days. Unfortunately, even if the apocalypse is rescheduled, doomsday theorists will unlikely take note."

Balderdash. All they *really* need is the original damaged disc. They could even charge for the replacement media and shipping, $5 tops to even cover handling.
I've tried to get several video games replaced. EVERY time I am told that obtaining a replacement is not an option and am told I had to purchase it again. Once the reason was because it was OOP, they then suggested that I try Ebay of a used game store.

The truth of the matter is, all of these companies, whether they be video games, movies, recordings, etc., they ALL would rather say that you OWN the copy, not license it when it gets damaged; but when you want to put it to fair-use, it is licensed.

The reason that you get 5 bars is because you are communicating with the extender. It acts like a cell tower. The real question is how good is the quality of the actual call?
If the extender's connection to the cell tower is bad then the call quality will still suck.
(Other bonus of using a repeater is lower battery usage!)

25 Years of the .com gTLD 104

An anonymous reader writes "The domain COM was installed as one of the first set of top-level domains when the Domain Name System was first implemented for use on the Internet in January 1985. The internet celebrates a landmark event on the 15th of March — the 25th anniversary of the day the first .com name was registered. Of the 250 million websites, there are over 80 million active .com sites. In March 1985, Symbolics computers of Cambridge, Massachusetts entered the history books with an internet address ending in .com (however, on 27 August 2009, it was sold to XF.com Investments). That same year another five companies jumped on a very slow bandwagon. Here is a list of the 100 oldest still-existing registered .com domains."

Nose Scanners — the New Face of Biometrics? 115

An anonymous reader writes "Forget fingerprints and ID cards, this photo story shows how the latest thing in biometrics is nose scanning! Bath university researchers have claimed that the nose will soon be able to be used as a way of identifying a person. Apparently the 'PhotoFace system captures a 3D image of a person's face by taking several photos lit from different angles to throw shadows on the face and then building a model of facial features. The software determined that there are six main nose shapes: Roman, Greek, Nubian, Hawk, Snub and Turn-up.' Some cool pictures make this worth a click — but what happens if a person breaks their nose?!"
