The bigger problem here isn't bankruptcy for people who need treatment. It's that we don't have paid sick leave. Many low wage jobs here will give sick leave, but it's unpaid. Some people can't afford to miss a day of work, so they'll go in anyway and spread their sickness.

IIRC it is because it was 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence that was made in a certain way. If you make a similar amount of silence in a different way, yours is copyrightable as well so long as done in a minimally creative manner.

Indeed if you listen to many libertarians, much of the problem of the third world is that property rights are not uniformly enforced. Having an identity known to the government is a prerequisite to knowing who owns the property and them being able to enforce that claim in court...you know unless identity is based on how many people someone can buy off to say "yep, that's John Smith and this his his land."
