Comment GNOME is fine (Score 1, Troll) 30

GNOME is fine. It is a good option for Linux users who want to use their systems to get some work done instead of messing around changing configuration settings.

I run GNOME on Debian stable and developed a shogi analysis GUI: https://github.com/schadfield/....

I wonder how productive those people are who are endlessly distro hopping and ricing their desktops?

Comment No computers (Score 1) 28

The popular online correspondence chess services (chess.com, lichess.org) do NOT allow computer use but you can consult openings databases derived from human v human games.

I have recently switched from international chess to its Japanese version shogi and play correspondence shogi on lishogi.org. A better way learn then endless blitz games.

Comment I don't like macOS (Score 1) 323

I bought my first Apple product - a super-duper 16" MacBook Pro with an 8xi9 CPU and 32 GB RAM - a couple of years ago and used it every day. This summer I found myself sat often in a cooler room downstairs and rather than carrying the MacBook and charger downstairs used my old VAIO laptop instead.

You know what? I was soon convinced that for all its flaws I would much rather use Windows 10 than macOS. Even after two years using macOS exclusively I still found Windows more comfortable to use and I was happy to be reunited with all my favourite Windows applications.

I sold the MacBook.

Comment Moved to iCloud (Score 1) 44

After many years as a free Google Apps for Domains user I moved my domain over to iCloud today. As I was using Mail.app on macOS and iOS anyway it wasn't a big upset. No longer free but ¥130 / month buys me more storage than I need.

Transferring the domain and 3 GB of mail data from a Google Takeout was pretty straightforward.
