This seems to be parroted everywhere but for the most part it's not true. Many GPU mining rigs sat in a shed, basement or dusty attic somewhere, and not an air conditioned datacenter like people believe. Another consideration is that a significant number of miners steal electricity and couldn't care less about undervolting.

Also a large number number of ex-mining Radeon GPUs found their way on to the German market recently and many were found to have water damage and cracked cores.

The admins don't care. Most subreddits are moderated by petulant, agenda-driven children who constantly break Reddit's own moderation guidelines with impunity. Their only qualification for becoming a mod was that they created the subreddit or are friends with the person who did.

I like Reddit for the niche topics and it's a pretty good platform for technical discussion. For anything mainstream it's a terrible forum for discourse and the shitty moderation is the main reason.

I'm not sure what orifice you've pulled those figures from. That 5c figure for wind certainly doesn't include the cost of gas backup or grid storage for when wind speeds are low.

Hinkley Point cost is £92.50/MWh or 9.3p/kWh. It's nowhere near 30 US cents, Euro cents or any other cents. Also any additional costs are being met by EDF with no risk to the UK taxpayer or consumer. It's turning out to be quite a bargain. And unlike wind Hinkley will provide reliable power 24/7, whatever the weather.

Lots of evidence that miners are turning to other ponzi coins. Ethereum Classic, arguably the 'true' Ethereum, has seen a surge in its hash rate in recent days.

You also have to consider that many miners steal electricity, or mine at a loss in the hope that number goes up in the future.

Sadly we can't celebrate the death of GPU mining just yet.
