Ignoring the whole blinded-by-faith and confirmation bias crap in your post...what the fuck is this redemption bullshit anyway?

Why do people need to be "redeemed" from the consequences of breaking arbitrary bullshit rules made up by the very same "god" claiming to offer redemption? "Stop wanking where I can see it (everywhere, natch. omniscience is cool!) or else!"

How about just changing the bullshit rules instead of requiring a lifetime of sycophantic servility?

BTW, "You have free will. Do what I say or I'll burn you in hell forever" is a shit excuse. It only qualifies as "free will" to Libertarians and other nutters who think that coercion isn't coercion unless there's an actual gun pointed at someone's head (although some Libertarians may vaguely concede that the threat of burning for eternity is kind of like pointing a gun).

If an alleged god sends bears to mutilate and murder 42 children because they called his prophet Elisha "Baldy" (2 Kings 2:24) then it can not, in any way, claim to be a "good" or "just". That's just pure fucking evil. And anyone who claims that it is good or just is a deluded psychopath.

Of course, that never actually happened because gods don't actually exist and magic spells don't work outside of fantasy fiction and games. Like everything else in the Bible (indeed, in every other religion and religious text), it's just a bullshit story to make sure everyone knows they have to respect and obey their betters or else god will send bears. or plagues. or worse.

As if the population left to their own devices is too stupid to make the right decisions.

Unfortunately, the general population is not left to their own devices. We/They are bombarded with advertising trying to convince us that uranium toothpaste, cosmetics, suppositories and more will make us look beautiful and are good for everything that ails us. These are all actual products sold in the 1910s to 1940s until they were banned.

And the history of such scams goes back long before then and continues today with new-age quantum woo garbage (like the power of crystals, faith healing, homeopathy, about 99.99% of chiropracty, vaginal steaming, scrotum tanning and more). not to mention stuff like lead paint, leaded petrol, DDT, glyphosate/roundup, bleached meats, and many more toxins that have been or still are sold to the public.

There's always some psychopath trying to make a buck without regard to how much harm it causes.

Contrary to what corporate propaganda tells you every day, regulations are essential.

Snowpiercer was Science Fiction - heavy on the Fiction, *very* light on the Science. With lots of action scenes. The "science" in it makes about as much sense as the notion that being bit by a radioactive spider will give you super powers.

It really belongs in a genre called Psuedoscience Fiction.

It's also propaganda that spreads the idea that trying to do *anything* about climate change is really super dangerous. So better do nothing. Just carry on, business as usual.

Comment Great Barrier Reef Foundation funding scandal (Score 1) 205

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is the same not-for-profit industry association that was given nearly half a billion dollars ($443 million) back in 2018 so that the - then Liberal (i.e. Australia's version of Republicans, right-wing extremists and neo-liberal loons) - government could pretend that they gave a shit about "the environment" and were "doing something" about it. Plus it had the side benefit of pissing away a vast sum of money so that it couldn't be used for anything actually useful (the Libs are fucking great at that, it's their speciality - whenever there's any money left in the budget after tax cuts for the rich and giving it away to corporations, they find something absolutely useless - or actively harmful - to dispose of it so that it CAN'T be used for anything worthwhile).

The GBRF was a tiny do-nothing organisation with about 6 full-time staff and a board comprised of banking, mining, coal, and oil industry executives. Hardly anyone had even hear of them. All they ever did was pro-corporate propaganda. In other words, giving them half a billion was a green-washing scam. Until the government gave them half a billion, they had a budget of about $8 million - pretty much all of which came from corporate donations.

They've already pissed all that money away, last year they only had about $5 million left. Their entire purpose is to spend money proposing useless, impractical wastes of time and money instead of actually doing anything useful.

BTW, they didn't even submit a request for the half-billion dollar grant, the government just offered it to them one day - totally co-incidentally just before the Federal election. It was a huge scandal, but it didn't stop the Libs from giving GBRF the money.

Or, and here's a novel idea, they could fund a few less corporate bailouts. Or cut all the subsidies for fossil fuels. and quit cutting taxes for billionaires.

Even just buying a few less bombers would fund a universal health scheme for years.

You've been brainwashed into thinking that "taxation is theft", that taxing a handful of billionaires will somehow harm you - Freedumb!!!1!.

None of that is true, taxes are essential - no country can function at all without taxes. The problem with tax is not that it exists, the problem is always with what the money is spent on...and with the way your government is owned by corporations, it's ALWAYS spent on corporate subsidies and bailouts and other useless shit, with a pittance left over for things that citizens actually need like schools, health care, housing, etc.

This isn't accidental. As well as giving trillions to corporate con artists and scumbags, the point is to make sure that the general public - the citizens - are poor and desperate so they put up with all the bullshit from employers and from government because they don't have any other fucking choice.

Stop blaming your fellow victims. Understand that it's the cunts who own almost everything that are fucking you over because there's money in it for them.

Your fucked up abortion of a "health" "care" system is absolutely NOT a "jobs program". It's a profit extraction system, has been since the 1970s when your laws were changed to allow the profiteers in, to turn health care into an industry rather than a public service. And it's got much worse since private equity looters got involved. The workers in it are at least as immiserated as you and have no fucking power to change anything.
