More reasons not to have a phone with locked down software market. If some software gets pulled because of some retarded laws in USA, I'll just download it from somewhere else to my Android. With iPhone I get screwed also, even though I'm pretty much exactly on the other side of the planet.

Comment Freedos in Thailand (Score 4, Interesting) 263

Here in Thailand, or at least in Chiang Mai, most of the computers and laptops I've seen come with FreeDOS preinstalled. If you don't want to install an OS yourself (and don''t prefer Freedos ;) you can just leave the new computer to the shop and pick it up with a OS of your choice a few hours later for a dollar or two extra install fee + price of the OS.

Go ask them how many buy $600 smart phones without a contract rather than $100 phones with a contract.

At least in Finland, most of the people. Why would you want to buy a more expensive (in the end) locked down phone than cheaper phone and freedom to go with any operator? (or change operator after 6 months or change phone whenever you want). I've seen a few friends buy a phone with contract but that's usually a combination of poorness and lower education.
