Was it the common vector active directory and SMB?
I've not seen ransomware work on unix/linux, not saying it doesn't exit, just doesn't work as well.
Every time this happens to a large corp people look to blame third parties, but really, just stop using AD.
Please think of the shareholders.
I'm not excusing anyone, I'm saying it's a prevalent human failing to be OK with hurting people that you cannot see and it really is despicable.
That's pretty much the meat industry too, if people saw how animals are treated and slaughtered, most would stop eating meat entirely.
I think a few people didn't get the sarcasm.
These days, how does one do anything without connecting to the big mainframe. Access to banks? Nope. Abe to buy things at a supermarket? Nope. Get a driving licence? Nope. Do school tests? Nope.
Only suitable for people to sign their enemies up for then.
Is this limited to the printer only though? A place I used to work out moved from printer ownership to printer support and rental. I don't know what the numbers were but for them that meant that the manufacturer owned all problems relating to the printer.
If HP expect you to subscribe to this and you own the problems, just they send you monthly ink and a stamper, then this is pretty dumb. That better be a printer that can duplex, staple, bind, job collate and give you magazine quality photo prints. Oh, and not have proprietary drivers.
Still no reason to ditch Brother.
The only thing being put off, if I were a Dell employee in this situation would be giving notice to quit. I can imagine there are many Dell employees who like their jobs, were happy, and everything fits nicely. I can see there are many who would be in a similar situation to me and who have different financial circumstances to their pre-covid times.
The WFH part for them is the part that would not work well now if they are on 9-5, why should their children suffer because Dell refuses to honour inflation payrises?
Good workers will quit and product quality will drop, do please think of the shareholders.
Some people (myself included) now have work life balances that would mean they can't carry on like this.
I have a kid to drop/collect at school, that just wouldn't be possible without WFH. Inflation here means the other half has to work a day job too so the only way to manage inflation is to WFH.
Under Dell's announcement that means I'd likely not get a inflation matching pay increase at the bare minimum, I'd have to seek employment elsewhere, and first offer would get my signature.
This hire-fire world is a double edge sword for the likes of Dell. Hardworking people are certainly going to be the first to leave, as always.
If on the other hand, Dell were to say, offer childcare vouchers that meet the deficit, and cover the travel cost and time of hybrid working, including co2 offsetting, then I can believe this isn't a quiet firing. Asking people who are 30-40 miles away to keep their shift hours and travel be out of the house longer all adds up, that's a lot of childcare. Also a lot of time you're not helping your kid and doing the parenting.
I hope both forks do well. This move should hopefully keep both sides keep the community interests at their core.
Or, is that linux with the worst window manager?
If you're are the point where you're using 12 terminals, you've already passed the point where you'd have a more enjoyable interface if you were using XFCE or KDE - you can probably do this with xming.
However, when I say enjoyable time what I mean is that you're be looking after one OS and it's problems rather than two. It was a house of cards for me when AD was compromised and all the windows machines were wiped in a five minute window. Linux computers survived that.
Just like Android... Does that mean this is the year of Linux on the desktop finally?
Linux isn't new, exactly. ChromeOS is new.
I hope those AI features don't end up affecting the price of the service. What a waste of money. AI here is an answer without a problem.
Good job that Infosys isn't involved with anything important like UK government
