Comment Buy? (Score 4, Interesting) 396

Buy? I took an older Motion Tablet PC I had, stuck an extra stick of RAM in it, and formatted it to install the Android OS. It works really well. If you are tech-savvy, I'd recommend doing the same before buying a high-dollar iPad competitor android tablet. If the price is right though, I'd recommend the purchase. Browsing the Internet on the built-in Chrome browser with flash playback works really well. Much like the iPad is a large iPhone in a sense, this is a large version of an Android phone. I'm really impressed with the tablet OS. The tablet PC has a gig

The same reason we teach kids math. Teaches them to think for themselves and to understand exactly what their graphics based editors are doing for them. Or at least get their mind to a point where they can think openly and creatively.

Yeah, same here. My wife was prompted for that in Frontierville as well as other games like Treasure Island. It just adds to the advertisement, when the game you are currently enjoying prompts you for a quest that requires you to try something else out. And well, once they try out CityVille, I'm sure some may enjoy it.

Sounds promising but would like a lot more information. I doubt they could give out more info at this time due to competitors looking into their type of racetrack memory right away. With the limitation of solid state drives, we need a breakthrough in some form or fashion.

Considering you still show an interest in gaming, I would never say that you've lost your mojo. As new games come out, including repeats of each other, it sort of makes it difficult for the long-term gamers to adapt. I mean, Call of Duty, as great a game as it is, is certainly not a fresh experience unless you just haven't played it in quite some time. Call of Duty and Halo have reshaped FPSs on console so they are nowhere near the same as before... which makes it easier for younger, newer gamers to come into the picture and become good at it. Those same gamers though would most likely get reemed playing us at Counter-Strike though. ;) (For the most part). As far as wanting to go back and play old titles... it's just like when you go to a restaurant and order the same thing. Sure, you want to try something else, but do you want to waste the money on something you might not like? Or just buy what you know you will like? I stay active as I can with gaming. I love all the old games I've played and enjoy a lot of new games. My suggestion to you would be to ask around, see what your friends like... play some demos, etc. Find a genre you like and check out other games in that genre (Obviously there's no game like Heavy Rain, haha). You said you didn't like AoE 3, so stay away from RTSs. And also stay away from sandbox games like GTA (Mafia, Just Cause, Saints Row, Red Dead Redemption), etc. You should look into some of the newer style FPS hybrid genre games like Bioshock, Fallout, etc. Or even trying some of the newer RPGs like Mass Effect, Oblivion (few years old I know), etc. I would say... never give up on the gaming spirit. The fact that you asked Slashdot about this means you still show interest. Gaming for life!

I don't know what kind of company you work for that you can just switch exchange to gmail. I would highly decline that idea, since it's much more professional to have a @companyname e-mail over @gmail. I don't know if you are currently using or plan to use active directory, but over multiple OSs, it won't always work. For exchange though, it will. Your exchange server can be easily configured in pretty much any OS to some degree, which would allow all of your users in either Linux, Mac, or Windows to have access to their e-mails, contacts, and calendars. As far as networking, there's also various other things you can do to make it work correctly. You can setup samba to allow the OSs to share files correctly. Wine also helps with allowing Windows applications to be installed on Linux and Mac, but you just have to be careful of some programs that use this -- they may appear to open up and run correctly, but you may end up running into a weird permission issue that just can't be corrected. I don't know if I can safely say I would recommend having multiple operating systems. I'm a huge Linux fan, but as far as users go, I would leave the Windows 7 workstations since Linux has not progressed that much in the desktop environment. What you want to avoid at all costs is having a mess of a network to deal with... and it seems like if you are inexperienced (not saying you are), you can run into all kinds of problems.

I selected Soda, because I probably do drink too many (4 mountain dews a day). I have on average two cups of coffee a day which I feel isn't much and as far as alcohol -- a couple of drinks a week. I think the main thing I have too much of is energy drinks. I'd say I drink five of those $5 Red Bulls in a week and maybe some smaller ones too.

I enjoy both coffee and espresso black from time to time but I also love mixing in my creamer. It just depends on what mood I am in. For the most part, unless I order something at Starbucks, I'm drinking espresso straight and as far as coffee, it's normally only a slight touch of french vanilla creamer with no sugar or black. I appreciate coffee and no one is going to tell me otherwise. :)

I had to deal with the same shit two weeks ago except it was $2,000 USD. PayPal blocked my account until they could contact 6 people I made eBay sales to. I don't know if it was the Patriot Act or what, but it was annoying as hell. I could not take any of the money out. After two weeks, they finally removed the ban... I'm currently looking into other sale sites and Google Check in as an option because I never want to have to deal with that again.

Comment Maybe. Maybe not. (Score 1) 422

The only possible way StarCraft 2 can do that is because it's the first PC game in a long time that is good to make use of your video card. Most people play WoW on their PC... and well, while once top of the line, the graphics are kind of sitting still (still love the look)... and not making use of newer video cards. Aside from WoW, there has not been that many great PC games come out -- Dragon Age came and gone, etc. But with StarCraft 2 coming out, looking good... it's making everyone put their video cards to use again... and well, if they are not cleaned out, when that fan spins faster to process more heat... it's going to break and fry the card. Just my two cents. If you don't use it, you lose it.

I agree, but I feel like with enough time, the technology to enhance SSDs would be visible. I know that as of right now, if you increase the storage space AND the single-file-size limit, you are going to run into voltage and data corruption issues... but I think disk based drives are possible to be replaced by this technology. It won't be a fast transfer though, but I don't believe in being "exact" by saying that it will never happen, because with technology, you never know.
