You need to look into MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit). You are duplicating work by installing in a VM each time and then creating/writing an image.

Setup MDT (works from network and USB, you can PXE boot or boot from USB and still use network).

You keep 1 base image up to date, you can add drivers by Model in a folder structure that automatically get detected and installed. Its a little setup, but once its done, adding a new machine is just a case of adding a few drivers. Generally I would just install once as-is, find what was missing after Windows update and then reinstall again. Almost all hands off, leaving you to do something else.

I did image deployment professionally for quite a few years, the tools are great now. Manually installing an OS, apps and drivers is very 90/00s.

Honestly, do you seriously believe this nonsense? Day to day, people don't "suffer" with the Windows desktop. I can honestly count on 1 hand how many times a year someone has a computer issue that halts work at my company. I can tell you that if you gave "normal" users linux, you would get far more frustration and lost time than what you seem to think Windows causes.

The people making this comments are "open source advocates", its not a view thats actually shown in day to day jobs, its people who are tied into a mindset. Its like religion than an actual business/technical/reality discussion.

Mod me down all you like, but honestly, if you think this would work with the vast majority of the population (us technical folk are a minority) - you have not got out enough and met normal people.

I cant remember off the top of my head how many you are allowed to create (or if we were even told) - but theres a "so many per hour/day" rule in place. So "normal" usage should lock you out, but enrollment days etc would.

I dont work in IT (and always hated Macs/OSX) - so dont take the fact I did the courses and got certified as anything other than I had to do it (for my previous job). But you are quite right, they dont take it seriously - we had a whole bit on how we should have an iTunes enrollment day to get around the problem (so shifting the issue to IT depts, rather than Apple).

Comment Re:Apple (Score 2) 104

When I did my Apple certifications, I was told about this. Basically its to stop people bulk creating iTunes accounts, education are supposed to get in touch with Apple and get their IP whitelisted for 30 days when you are enrolling new students.

The other work around was apparently to go to an Apple store, they are all whitelisted for obvious reasons.

I actually agree with you, just not the whole "I have been here longer than you" tone of his reply. I have been here even longer than the submitter and contributed a hell of a lot less. How long anyone has been here means nothing to how much you can or cannot have contributed - therefore didn't need including in his reply and only made him sound like a douchebag when doing so.
