Submission + - Myspace and GoDaddy shut down security archives

Gerald writes: "According to a post on the nmap-hackers mailing list early this morning, Myspace had GoDaddy shut down the entire SecLists.org domain. SecLists.org is run by Fyodor of Nmap fame and hosts many important security-related mailing list archives. This is an important service for the security community.

It looks like someone posted a list of Myspace usernames and passwords to one of the lists archived at SecLists.org. Instead of contacting Fyodor directly about the problem, they contacted his DNS provider (GoDaddy) and had them shut down the entire domain."

Submission + - U.S. Pennies to be Worth Five Cents?

Z-MaxX writes: As a result of the sky-high copper prices, the U.S. one-cent coin can be worth more when melted down and sold as copper metal. New regulations against the melting down and exporting of coins have recently been passed, but Francois Velde, senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, thinks these measures will not be enough. He suggests "rebasing" the penny to be worth five cents.

Submission + - The best language for regexps?

youthoftoday writes: "I'm embarking on a project to churn through a few thousand short files, run various regular expressions to parse them into a symbolic format and drop them into a database. I've considered Ruby, Python, Perl, Tcl... I'm prepared to learn a language, but I'm keen to stick to something interpreted (I can already feel the flames).

Do Slashdotters have favourite languages for this kind of application? Does one rise above the rest for speed, suitability or expressiveness for this sort of problem? Is there one implementation with far better regexp functionality or speed than the rest?"

Submission + - Coke settle copyright dispute with web animator

Nuskrad writes: "In a copyright battle that reverses the major corporation vs the little guy pattern that has become common, Coca Cola has agreed to pay compensation to veteran web animator Joel Veitch and his band, 7 seconds of love. Fans in Argentina spotted an advert with a similar animation style and music in December, and several major news channels carried the story in January gaining support for the band. You can see a comparison of the music video and the offending advert here.

Most of the compensation is being donated to charities funding research into premature births and neonatal care, with the rest paying to have the track rerecorded and released for sale."
