I'm not overly enthusiastic about USB-C cables either. Maybe I bought the wrong ones but they seem to fail a lot. Worse, the connector on my laptop motherboard failed which was a real hassle. Sad, because the concept of power+video+other-USB-stuff over one cable is pretty cool.

The first thing I did with the airtag that I hid in my car was to remove the little speaker. I'm not a stalker but I like to know where my car is just in case it gets misplaced. It's trivial to remove the speaker.

A thief may notice that he's being tracked but he'll probably have a real hard time tracking down the tracker. Easier to just leave the car by the side of the road for me to pick up.

If for some reason the trust evaporates people will panic and want their actual dollars. A tether crash will follow.

Of course, the dollar isn't trustless either...

My son is Dutch and an avid 'fietser' so we're both aware of this. He's not so happy about us moving to a different country with a very lacking bike infrastructure.

And we are leading the world in bicycle use and infrastructure (according to my son).

I had a period in which I used credit cards a lot, but these days, with world wide useable bank debit cards, paypal and other apps and Bicoin/lightning I very rarely feel the need to use a credit card. Perhaps it's because I'm European, but there seems to be plenty of competition.

I believe the problem is that the US is trying to stop Iran from doing business with other countries by blocking the US controlled payment networks. Regardless of how you feel about US or Iran policy it doesn't seem reasonable that a third party can block transactions between two willing parties. Bitcoin (and it's offspring) seems a reasonable way to get around this because of its censorship resistance.

Very few of these technologies ever make it from the front page of Slashdot to our homes, it seems. So, color me sceptical. Perhaps the Chinese haven't learned this yet.

Yup, BMW options lists have nearly always been very extensive. Often adding 50% or so to the cost for what is already a luxury car, even if youâ(TM)ve picked a higher trim levelâ¦

Just be glad you arenâ(TM)t buying a luxury yacht⦠If you donâ(TM)t pick them from an options list and pay *extra*, youâ(TM)ll literally have no sails⦠At least the BMWs come with wheels.

My kid loves it. He used to let me select a random spot on Google Earth and figured out the location. Now someone made a game of it. Very well done.
