Are the editors of Slashdot so ignorant to the existence of content management systems to let this article through? One persons exuberance towards a particular content management system does not make a news worthy article. The author speaks of Drupal like he's discovering sliced bread. Plone as a CMS has been around for years, as have others.

Submission + - Global Warming (morgancountytax.org)

wilber123 writes: "Global Warming ? There has been no credible evidence of man causing the normal change our planet has gone through and is going through again. Our climate and temperatures cycle, last year on July 4th wasn't the same temp as this July 4th., 1998 differs from 2001. The warmest years in history was long before man made so called greenhouse gases. Climate cycles. Simple mathematics teaches all things that cycle in the short term cycles in the long term. The thousand or so non-political scientist who are trying to inform the world of this are muffed by the socialist, because that's what this is all about. Simply put the socialist are using a natural change in our earths climate to finish taking control over private industry and the people who work for them. I've been committed to a personal study of those who won't debate the facts but go's straight to the control of industry with nothing in between and they have all been socialist. Now lets see, I bet they also are trying to tell us its to complicated for us to understand and we better trust them because they all agree,- right? right. Where have we heard that before. NO, THE SKY IS NOT FALLING. DON"T FALL FOR IT. One cannot believe in GOD and be so arrogant to think he can out control GOD's systems. I suggest he study the tower of Babel in the old testament. Based on faith, mathematics or physics its all normal. Be willing to adapt to the climate and not the socialist and you will be fine."

About Open Font Library

The Open Font Library's (www.openfontlibrary.org) major goal is to create an archive of freely usable fonts for anyone to download. If this sounds familiar, its because it is newborn sister project to the Open Clip Art Library (www.openclipart.org). While the OFL.o's site is fresh, with few fonts, the goal is to build it up so that it can be useful to the free and open source communities (and world).

For More Information:

Please see http://openfontlibrary.org/?ccm=/OFLBLogo for details about this contest. It closes March 14 at 11:59 PM PST."

Submission + - Swing Bling - Java effects comparable to Flash

Nemi writes: From the article — "But the one thing that Swing still lacks is eye candy. Swishy, bouncy, scrolly stuff. Now personally I can't stand it... But the Flex demo got me wondering: just how easy would it be to add swishy, bouncy, scrolly stuff to a standard Swing GUI?"

This is a very simple demo, but shows what is possible with Java/Swing. Now that Java is open sourced, may we be seeing more of this become available?

IBM Refuses To Certify Oracle Linux 124

Andrew writes "IBM has thrown a spanner in the Oracle Linux works by refusing to certify that IBM's software portfolio will run and be supported on Oracle Unbreakable Linux. If IBM applications turn out to be incompatible with Oracle Linux, then it will be up to Oracle to resolve any issues. This conservative stance of IBM's is unlikely to help Oracle sell Linux subscriptions to businesses that use any of IBM's large software portfolio."

Journal Journal: FBI Training Elite Swedish Anti-Piracy Force

"When it comes to piracy Sweden is no stranger to controversy. Gaining worldwide notoriety as the country that hosts The Pirate Bay BitTorrent tracker and recently being labelled as a piracy safe haven by an International Intellectual Property Alliance report, they even have their own political party dedicated to piracy. In response (some might argue, in desperation) the FBI and the MPA are combining resources to train an elite anti-piracy force in Sweden to counter was is seen as a growing and

Submission + - Professional Wikis For Science

An anonymous reader writes: There are many questions concerning the accuracy of content contained in Wikipedia,as well as it's future funding. There are more and more wikis popping up that want to real in the experts and keep out the novices and vandals. Here's a demo of a new wiki, WikiProfessional ,that may be able to solve number of these issues at once. Nothing to shake a stick at, though the above link is just a demo, the quotes on the demo indicate serious interest from some higher ups in the biology world...mainly the protein world. It's also clear that this wiki model is based on key biological databases(Nature subscribers only), not simply articles. The big question is will this model be embraced and can it be expanded to other domains of lifescience and beyond?

Submission + - Google HD failure report, high temps/usage

An anonymous reader writes: The impact of heavy use and high temperatures on hard disk drive failure may be overstated, says a report by three Google engineers. The report examined 100,000 commercial hard drives, ranging from 80GB to 400GB in capacity, used at Google since 2001. From the article: "The report also looked at the impact of scan errors — problems found on the surface of a disc — on hard drive failure. "We find that the group of drives with scan errors are 10 times more likely to fail than the group with no errors," said the authors. They added: "After the first scan error, drives are 39 times more likely to fail within 60 days than drives without scan errors."
