Comment Male privacy matters! (Score 1) 89

Yes, it's a stereotype. The funny thing here is everybody is thinking about the kids, but what about the adults? Now, if this was something to work on finding kidnapped/runaway kids that are underage and doing porn, sure. Otherwise there's better stuff to be doing with the money. Parents just need to turn off the internet and learn to say no to their brats if they actually care about this.

Comment Fiber optics? (Score 1) 109

As the tech improves, I wonder if it could be used in conjunction with fiber optics to provide EMF free power transfer. I'm sure scientists might find that useful for certain types of sensors. If the power cuts immediately on interruption, then it could also be much safer if a line is cut. Even better, communication networks could carry their own power, like the old telephone network, and keep everybody talking during a general outage. Your GB of porn downloads could become GW of power!

Comment Financial bias for profitable healthcare? (Score 1) 114

A cynical person might wonder if the algorithm was set up that way to ensure the more profitable patients were seen first. If group A generates similar income (my income, your costs) to B, but for four maladies instead of three, then group B is more profitable. After all, that's one less battery of tests to run, one round less paperwork, etc.

Comment Re: Headline and body contradict (Score 2) 79

Misidentification can lead to being treated with undue aggressiveness or fear. The cops night not do anything, but private security might tackle you immediately, lock you up for a while before calling the cops, or eject you from the premesis with no compensation for it (think a cruise, ball game, or plane).
