yea, speedo's (and odo's, subsequently) can be off by a good amount due to the fact that your car has no idea how big your wheels are. And i'm not even talking about non-OEM wheels, i'm talking about wheels being under/overinflated. It's pretty common for manufacturers to overstate the speed for this exact reason

growing up in the 'burbs, many friends had those stupid giant wheels on their pickups, and had to basically multiply their speed by a certain factor to figure out how fast they were actually going

yea, i guess i was looking on the ECU side (OP said the "computer was acting screwy") so i was more interested in a situation where the ECU incorrectly read info, but i will concede that a physical world problem should have been obvious to me.

i'm a test engineer and was on a project where the ECU was our device under test, so i was mostly interested in this guy's story of a failed ECU/computer, but more than likely i'm thinking this isn't the case....

as a homebrewer/legal backuper/whatever you wanna call it, you need to remember that this update is mostly geared towards anti-piracy. In fact, the 'newer' disk format being bigger is really just a side effect of completely re-doing the video partition and other pieces of the piracy puzzle.

They KNEW that this update would not work on certain 360 drives (hell, even WE know what the different drives are capable of). My guess is that they are willing to just accept it and hand out free consoles just to get this update pushed out, because it looks like its going to be disastrous in the backup community (dvddrive firmware read/writes by the MOBO?!), and they are willing to pay a bit to eradicate the pirates.

no, we're not - and I will GLADLY pay this price, if not more. If you are a GV user, then you understand how insanely valuable the service is.

on the flipside, if you're a privacy advocate (which I absolutely get!), then don't sign up.

the thing that I don't get is people shouting "i told you so" at all the people that use google services - we get it, we already know they want to mine our data - and we WANT to give it to them!

*disclaimer: i do not use GV due to the fact that I MMS more than a teenage girl - but I do look at the others that use it with envy : (

this has gone mildly offtopic, but as a PSN user i just wanted to chime and say the following...

I can't STAND when people say 'its free, so its ok if it goes down.' When i purchased a PS3, the PSN was a FEATURE that i considered when i bought it. As such, it's not really "free", its more like it was wrapped into the MSRP. By your logic, they should be able to take away the entire network for GOOD and everyone should be completely happy. is this true? Heck, let's start pulling out other features that you got for 'free' as well. I mean geez, I heard that no one uses otherOS, lets just...pull..that...oh shit.

when i used to have an iphone (3g) i bought a bunch of those crappy hard shell cases that look EXACTLY like the back of the phone (even has the logo, says 'apple of california', all that text, etc) you can get from china for like $0.60/pop.

one of them was the really awesome vibrant blue color. No joke, people would ask me all the time where i got the awesome blue iphone from, and where they can get one. i would explain about the case, ebay, etc, and they were saddened. i never got it - it LOOKS exactly like what you wanted, and now you're sad because you CAN'T spend a ton of money to get it, instead spending less than a buck? yeesh.
