I think Bartlett is on to something here. A case in point: I was horrified and outraged by the attack by Hamas on Israel. I was also horrified and outraged by Israel's response. And I do feel an obligation to condemn one side or the other, which I haven't done publicly. I do have a personal opinion, but I'm not confident enough in my facts or understanding to loudly proclaim judgement, or to tell others what they should think.

Comment Bing Searches (Score 1) 110

I'm using GPT4 (ChatGPT Plus subscription). I find it useful for many things, but the outdated training data can be a hindrance. So I was enthusiastic when I heard it would be able to access live information on the Internet.

I'm less enthusiastic now, as I find it sometimes answers a question by simply doing an online search with Bing. FFS! If I wanted to use a search engine, I could do that without ChatGPT.

Comment Moving to Vancouver (Score 1) 43

The company, which is based in Redmond, Wash., said it had also opened an outpost of the lab in Vancouver, British Columbia, and would move some researchers from China to the location.

As a local resident, I can tell you that Vancouver (or Canada as a whole) is no bastion of privacy against China. They have their nose pretty far up in our business here.

Comment "Knowing"? (Score 4, Informative) 61

The model obtains an insider tip about a lucrative stock trade and acts upon it despite knowing that insider trading is disapproved of by company management.

Is it accurate to say that a Large Language Model "knows" anything? This strike me as anthropomorphism.

Comment TekSavvy (Score 2) 28

This is exactly what the CRTC had mandated in the past with regard to copper wire (telephone) infrastructure. Smaller ISPs such as TekSavvy sold services running over the wires of larger carriers such as Telus, resulting in far better deals for the consumer. For example, TekSavvy offered ADSL service with no monthly cap on data, which no one else was offering.

I'm glad to hear that similar competition can now be expected with Fibre Internet.
