My first visit to an Amazon Fresh a few weeks ago store was less than encouraging. The Dash cart is neat, but it got confused when I had to rearrange things to make them fit (the basket area is small). The employees seemed annoyed that there were actual shoppers in the store. I had to be fairly obnoxious to get their attention when trying to make my way down the aisle past the pallet jacks and the personal shoppers (or whatever Amazon calls them).

And then I had to cart several things back into the store that I wasn't charged for (it was about 90% of the order value or I probably wouldn't have bothered).

If there were robots too? They'd probably be easier to deal with than the personal shoppers, but I wouldn't look forward to it.

I had Roku starting with Netflix Player (2008?) and made it through about 4 generations. Over time all of them became unusable or unsupported. I used the boxes and the sticks, and eventually gave them all away. I tried Chromecast, and it became unsupported after a few years (by Netflix I think), though it was pretty stable until then. I tried two generations of fire sticks, and they both had problems with stability or compatibility.

Eventually I got an Apple TV (2016?) and have used it since. I haven't had to worry about the Google thing not playing Amazon videos, or the Amazon thing not playing Google videos. And it just works?

I've been considering upgrading to the 4K version but probably won't because after 5 years the one I have works just fine.

I've wondered about this. In my situation, I don't have reasonable charging facilities at my driveway, and I live in a suburban subdivision so there isn't anywhere nearby I could use public chargers. I think I would have to:

1) Upgrade the electrical service to my home and the service panel ($?).
2) Run electricity to my detached garage as the charger will want to be inside for best results (~$3k estimates).

So I'm going to guess ~$6k just to get my house ready to charge an EV (not including the EV charging unit).

I suppose I might be able to get away with upgrading the exterior outlet nearest the driveway, but then there's cords living outside and freezing to the ground in the winter, which seems annoying enough to make me re-think having an EV.

My wife paid for one month but only because she forgot to cancel during the free trial.

I wonder what Apple TV+ numbers will look like once people actually have to pay. I was about to cancel but then they extended the trial.

Comment AT&T hates its customers (Score 1) 119

AT&T did the same thing to me in 2005, except worse. I had a phone that was AMPS, TDMA and GSM. It worked ... everywhere. They sent me a letter a few days before I left the country for two weeks telling me I had a month to choose a new plan and phone, or they would default me to a much worse plan with a crappy phone. I didn't get around to reading the letter until there were about 5 days left (after I'd managed to get to the post office and pick up my mail).

And that was the day I decided I didn't want to be an AT&T customer any more. Nextel was much better. I miss Nextel.
