Journal Journal: Line: Ah, to be 50 again.

Working on a report for someone in her late 70s over the phone, i lamented on being 50 when i took off my glasses and got close to the laptop to read the small letters on the screen. Her response: Ah, to be 50 again.

It made me smile. It's refreshing to hear things put in perspective.

Comment Can't stop the older stuff from getting out. (Score 5, Informative) 91

People were freaking out about FPGAs, microcontrollers, etc. that were in some of these drones. Fact is most (all?) of it was older & EOL things that you can find on Ali Express and other sites for peanuts.

There's no way to stop the recyclers from selling the parts off.

Comment The desktop itself is dead (Score 1, Insightful) 108

There will never be a "year of the desktop", because the desktop is dead. The reality is that such a large percentage of the population use mobile devices for the majority of their interactions that whatever happens on the desktop is irrelevant. I find it bizarre because the mobile experience is so abysmal compared to a proper desktop. But I've never understood the mainstream, and I guess this is just another example of that.
