Sick of hearing you brain-dead cunts repeat everything you hear on CNN as if it's the gospel.

I'm not an American, I don't watch CNN and we don't have a vested interest in your politics over here. From the outside, Jan 6 looked really bad. Why can't you see that your guy lied over and over again about a stolen election with no proof and then tried to overthrow your democracy? Why don't you see that your Republican party has become a party of dishonourable liars, standing for nothing but cronyism and spite? You guys have severe wage repression, very few employee protections and a healthcare system that bankrupts you if you get sick, even if you are insured. Why are you cheering for the guys who want to keep it that way?

I'm saying this from the point of view of someone who has previously spent years working in America and has family over there. Don't get me wrong, I love the US, but you guys have serious problems and it looks like you are in deep trouble right now.

I'm not an American, but I don't understand why Trump is not in prison for treason or sedition. The evidence is incredibly damning of what he wanted his followers to do. The insurrection came very close to succeeding and he's still stirring up the same shit. I think America is completely fucked if Trump and his cronies do not receive serious punishment.

As crazy as it sounds, getting infected with a far less dangerous strain that imparts some amount of immunity and protection against other strains is certainly a thing.

It doesn't sound crazy at all, cowpox (a non-deadly strain) was used to make the smallpox vaccine. However, do we actually know that that's what Omicron is yet? Of all these mild cases of Omicron that are being reported, how many of them were in previously uninfected and unvaccinated people?

That article is total bullshit.

I know people with long COVID, they are not making it up and it is not all in their heads. These were fit and healthy people (ie. aged 40 and under, BMI below 25) when they caught it. They were hospitalised and are still dealing with serious health problems a year later.

I agree, stick to science and data. A WSJ opinion piece does not qualify as either.

This is just elitism and snobbery. I've worked as a developer for 40 years, I've seen a lot of languages come and go, I've been paid at some point to work in most of them. Python is a tool and it has pros and cons versus other languages. To say that you can't build a large business application in it is ridiculous. You personally might not be able to, but many of us can and have.

None of this makes any sense.

  • In what way can Dropbox be called a complicated application? It serves and receives files!
  • If you need to heavily optimise a codepath in Python, write it in C and call it from Python if you really must
  • In what world would I/O not be Dropbox's bottleneck over application speed?
