Did I miss something? I have done SEVERAL tests on machines running windows XP Vista and 7. I have never gotten an overall performance increase with 7. Vista runs the slowest XP the fastest and 7 a close 2nd. 7 only comes close if you have a new beefy machine with 4gb of RAM. I am not making any jokes here. Can someone point me to any proof that 7 out performs XP overall. Grant it I did all my testing before the official release of 7 but show me a Pentium 4 with 2gb of ram and I will bet XP will run faster.

I was laid off from my IT position.. I live in Ohio.. everyone is laid off. All I know is computers. In a past life I was a paramedic but figured I didn't have the compassion needed for that job. I understand computers and love to do it. Thats why I chose IT. About 6 months ago I took a leap and opened my own computer repair shop. Only cost me about 2k to get the doors open. No stock of parts except the boxes of crap I had around my house. I am now making profit after 6 months. I love it. I have no one to answer to but myself. The customers are very thankful that there is some place they can go that will actually fix there issues. I even have some older retired guys who just come in to hang out. I have no experience what so ever in running a business. Learning curve is not all that hard. Luckily my neighbor is an accountant and helped me in that area. The first 2 months were kind of scary not having anything to do. Played a lot of pocket tanks with my friends. Now I have an office that I don't even go into because I have so much to do. If your an honest person that truly knows how to fix computers. I am sure you would be a welcome asset to your community. Oh yeah and the 2 mile drive to work is SWEET!

Internet Explorer's lack of built-in support for SVG was keeping it away from mainstream use on the web.

Since when is IE NOT mainstream? They have over 90% of the market? I get it.. they don't follow the rules and IE sux and everyone should use firefox or opera but to call IE not mainstream is if nothing else a bit odd.

I must say that it has been a LONG time since I purchased a cert. Thawte and Verisign were competing companies at the time. I know when we got ours there were LOTS of hoops we had to jump through to get it. We had to verify phone numbers, addresses and Dun and Bradstreet crap. I can't imagine that over the years they made it so just anyone would be able to purchase a certificate saying the were a new paypal site?

Submission + - Google sued over patent by Northeastern University (reuters.com)

BillGod writes: SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 11 (Reuters) — Google Inc (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) faces a federal patent infringement lawsuit by Northeastern University over technology used in its core Web search system, according to legal papers filed last week. The complaint was filed on Nov. 6 in Marshall, in the Eastern District of Texas — the U.S. court with a history of decisions that are highly favorable to plaintiffs in patent cases — but the case only came to light over the weekend. The plaintiffs are Boston-based Northeastern University and Jarg Corp, a start-up founded by a Northeastern University professor that is the exclusive licensee of search technology patented in 1997, a year before Google was incorporated. A spokesman for Mountain View, California-based Google said it believed the suit was without merit. "While we have not been served, we are aware of the complaint and believe it to be without merit based upon our initial investigation," Google spokesman Jon Murchison said.
