Without a medic on board, it isn't an ambulance, it is a meat wagon. Using something like this would be considered patient abandonment, this will never take off for use in the medical field. The idea of hauling people to the hospital as fast as possible was replaced with prehospital care a long time ago.

I always held the philosophy that security starts with the network. If a custom or legacy solution needs to be roped off, then what's the problem? Almost anything can be mitigated.

Then write some custom software/scripts to allow those functions to pass through to the parent machine. SysAdmin isn't meant to be a walk through the park. Use a little bit of ingenuity to make the workflow smooth.

A better idea would be to ask people willing to volunteer and work as a special team to tackle the problem rather than arbitrarily keep everyone there. Offer overtime pay or some sort of bonus or stock option to those who stay and join the team, thereby only keeping the ones that really want to be there on the task.
