I got mine in late November of 2020...didn't even pre-order, just saw a bunch on the shelf at the local enormo-mart and got one.
It's not really a control freak mentality but more a realization that emacs was designed around computing paradigms that don't really exist that way anymore.
1. Computing used by a bearded priesthood, not the masses.
2. Using keyboards with a LOT of specialized keys like the Space Cadet Keyboard.
3. On machines that didn't have GUI's by default.
Take a look at the emacs wikipedia page. Two of the screenshots basically shows emacs being used as a windowing system with code, a shell, a web browser AND Norton Commander (dired) A lot of the guys saying "don't change emacs" originally used emacs in that sort of environment, pre-X. They got used to using Emacs as their UI.
But most people who didn't come from that bearded priesthood era and grew up with micros have an entirely different mindset about computers. Kind of like "Computers for the masses, not just those who have taken Lisp classes"
So they might view emacs as a relic and those who encourage the use of it by those who were not in the 70's bearded priesthood misguided.
The first screen editor was the BASIC editor on a Commodore 8032 at school. First word processor was WordPro 4+ on that same CBM 8032's. First GUI I saw was the Classic mac one.
So when I first saw emacs in 2002, you might say my reaction was: "WTF is this non-intuitive monstrosity."
It has mostly worked acceptably well with some minor quirks since Fedora 17, though it has been replaced with Pipewire. Pipewire integrates with JACK better.
Yeah, in late November of 2020, a bunch were just sitting in the case at the local enormo-mart.
That said, that was the LAST time I've seen them "in the wild"
Don't seen many PS4's either, the cases that would have PS4's/PS5's are full of headsets. Nintendo Switches have been in short supply at times too. I've only just started seeing the OLED model starting last month.
Makes sense considering both the PSP and the PS3 have BSD code in them. As do the Vita, PS4 and PS5 as well. The latter two being full-fledged BSD systems.
The Square-Enix titles aren't the only ones, it is just that among the older games, those are most likely to be played.
Demos and the "free" games that you get through Playstation Plus. Those have expiry dates, usually the renewal date for your Playstation Plus account. Purchased games don't generally have expiration dates.
The Enterprise was not a new ship even during TOS. Robert April was the first captain, so yes, they could even do ANOTHER series set before SNW.

Yes, TAS is canon.
and I don't think it adds anything to this series either... I think it's more interesting to have a character that stays above that.
How soon even the nerds forget:

Meaning the Vulcan woman was most likely T'Pring.
IIRC there were also some chorded typewriters in the late 19th century, they didn't catch on then either.
John Madden! Football! aeiou!
The sound subsystem is by Sony, Ken Kutaragi of PlayStation fame designed it.
Yes, DO NOT WANT!
No Fedora?
