Comment Parents? (Score 1) 119

Parents have been pushing child rearing onto schools for a while now. I'd guess they expect the schools to do the heavy lifting of convincing the kids to come to school without the parents being involved but if they try to use any punishment as a stick the parents would go running to the press or a lawyer.

People have become deluded with the idea that we can function normally without ever having in person interactions. Humans are social animals and need to be physically present around each other, not hiding behind a keyboard perpetually. I see some huge problems with depression and loneliness coming down the pike as these generations age.

What is the rule? 99% of advertising is wasted, the trick is finding the 1% that worked?

I've always wondered who the hell actually clicks on the vast majority of junk ads, and they are truly junk. I think I can count on one hand the number of ads in the last month that I've chosen to actually follow. I'd say the majority of my "clicks" were misclicks, like trying to close some crappy video window. I assume most advertisers are just being lied to constantly and getting bogus click through metrics to keep them paying. They are pumping out so many fake accounts, junk ads, etc that they are just choking themselves. The forums they exploit, like product reviews, just become useless.

Comment Don't buy apple then (Score 1) 116

No one is forcing you to buy Apple. There are only essentially two phone systems because who the hell wants to deal with more? No consumer wants to struggle with it, they just want it to work. Done. Apple's closed garden appeals to these folks. We've struggled to get connector standards and these suits want chaos in the phone market? LG dropped out of the market even though they made nice, reasonably priced phones but people voted with their wallets.
