AWS revenue was US$25.6 Billion in 2018... it was so profitable it enabled the rest of the company to generate 9+ times its own revenue in a profitable fashion? I post here in absolute, genuine awe.

Amazon's net profit for 2018 was $10 billion. The most recent numbers I can find show a net profit margin of about 25% for AWS, so about $6.5B or 2/3 of Amazon's overall profit for 2018.

That suggests the retail arm on its own is netting about 1.5% -- about half of Wal-Mart's 3% and probably not a sustainable model from a shareholder's standpoint.

Good one. So to complete the picture:

Article discussing paper: "aren't doing so fast enough", "doom", "climate gone mad"

As I've said many times before, the warming alarmists forfeit any chance of being taken seriously by their seemingly pathological need to grossly overstate everything.

Except that you can't really, at least not in economy. You have to book your ticket first (non-refundable usually) before you can select your seat.

Which airline are you referring to? I've seen this in some offbeat situations with multi-airline international flights, but barring that I've been able to pre-select seats for years. These days you can even see the seat maps before selecting a leg.

Are we talking about Clinton or Kushner? Because both essentially did it.

If your parallel was accurate, you wouldn't need the weasel words. What was the "it" that Kushner "essentially" did, and how does it supposedly compare to the Secretary of State running all her email traffic through a box sitting in the loft apartment of some dude who apparently couldn't even figure out how to spell TLS?

With waiters and waitresses - they have a fixed hourly wage they earn, and any tip you give is added on top of that.

That's half true. The fixed hourly wage is a pittance (a couple bucks an hour last I looked), and if that wage plus tips doesn't add up to minimum wage the employer makes up the difference. That's clearly explained in the Wikipedia link in the summary.

That's exactly what's happening here, except DoorDash's pittance base is per delivery rather than per hour as explained here.

That's some dangerous and stunningly incorrect advice, my friend. OP was describing a textbook example of limitations on the reexport of technology subject to U.S. Export Administration Regulations. There's a plain-English overview here.

Pro tip: something can still be true even if you don't think it should be.

Cute, but 58 C is just about the middle of the range for medium rare. I wouldn't take a filet quite that high, but certainly less tender and/or more marbled cuts like a ribeye, flank, or strip benefit from a few extra degrees.

You may be confusing the final temperature of the finished steak with its temperature when you take it off the grill -- keeping it on the heat until you measure 58 C likely would cause it to overshoot into the medium range during resting.

A few dead factual and neutrally sourced observations -- flame away:

1. The current temperature in Alert, Nunavut is 3 C, heading for a high of 4.
2. The forecast for the rest of the week is 9, 10, 5, 4, 4, and 5 C (TFA says the average July high is 7 C).
3. The above link also shows the warm snap lasted less than 4 days, bounded by a high of 12 C on the 13th and 5 C on the 18th.
4. Alert recorded a high of 20 C in 1956.

Given that, words like "spectacular" and "unprecedented" seem a bit overwrought.
