I would not be surprised at all if the rescinded offers were to older workers and the ones that still apply are for people over 30. Zuckerberg has said he won't hire anyone over 30, IBM is notoriously obsessed with youth. Most people answering the phone at a help desk who actually have skills beyond writing a ticket and escalating it used to do something they did not hate before they were considered too old.

Windows 11 SE will be garbage just like all previous hobbled versions of Windows, and Surface tablets are plastic junk that will soon be buried in landfills. Schools, keep buying Chromebooks for your students. You will be glad you did. I would sooner pay for a Chromebook than take a Surface for free.

Locking up ideas as property is no less a form of censorship than suppressing them. The world's first copyright law, Queen Anne's Law, was about one thing: the ruling class fearing the Gutenberg press. US copyright law in theory was supposed to be different. The copyright clause of the constitution says "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries" Maybe the original 1790 copyright law actually did that, but it is now completely stifling and essentially perpetual. Besides, most copyrighted material is not science and the useful arts. It is just entertainment.

The days are naturally short in the winter and long in the summer. People are going to die today and tomorrow from driving while sleep deprived, and heart attacks so a few others can call it 8 PM when there is still light out. Standard time is true time. Daylight savings time is a collective lie about what time it is.

I ended up with Duplicity. It does locally encrypted difftars, versioning and relatively easy retention policy stuff so that I can keep i.e. two full backups and incremental on top of the last one.

Backend? Just choose the one with best price/performance for you. I do the AWS S3 Service from Wasabi, because it has so far served me well and is the cheapest S3-compatible service I have found so far. But Duplicity in itself is quite flexible, so you might find storage solutions that suit you better.

Comment Money is the only reason anyone works (Score 1) 236

This phishing test was a dirty trick that proves the boss class view all off the working class added up as having a value of zero. None of us go to work each day for our health or because we like it, but to acquire the one thing that makes it possible to survive in this society. Promising more of it, then saying "gotcha sucker" is an obscenity. They easily could have posed as UPS or Fedex saying you need to digitally sign for a package.
