This country has fought long and hard to remove segregation and discrimination and it is not acceptable to slide so far backwards. One of the biggest challenges in our future is our failures in education today. Our current trend is that secondary education is becoming more and more female, and believe me, we don't want to deal with the crime and productivity implications of an abundance of under-educated men in our country. Focusing on educating girls is a bad idea. Rather, the focus should be on educating all children. We don't give kids the credit they deserve. They are perfectly capable of choosing their favorite subjects on their own.

These people had no idea what they were getting into and obviously just wanted to have their students carrying tablets around so they'd look like Starfleet Academy. In addition to the corruption that went on, this project was doomed from the start. I doubt they were able to express any clear requirements to the vendors they were working with and probably didn't have any actual plan for how the technology would be leveraged in the classroom. I've seen it a dozen times in schools with inept management. Those who can, do. Those who can't....

Doesn't matter what the actual law says. The actual, unwritten law that everyone follows says that you cannot discriminate against straight white men. Lawsuit won't succeed unless they dig up some incredibly damning emails.

The problem is that there are a few, very active, and very stubborn power users that know how to use Wikipedia and navigate it's internal processes. They posses incredible power to make all their favorite articles conform to their own vision.

Every time I go to edit something, it immediately gets reverted by a major contributor, who cites some rule or process that is described on a page I've never seen before and don't know how to find.

Wikipedia should just stop with the charade. They should stop saying it's open to everyone. It's more like an open source project that only accepts edits from it's developers.

Wikipedia's biggest problem is the brain drain. They're no longer relying on the wisdom of the masses. In this case, if you get a prankster who puts in the time to get some Wikipedia cred, then they can put in pretty much any hoax they want.

I would be very excited to read about the detection of gravity waves. But man, talk about a setup for disappointment. I wouldn't use that kind of language with the theoretical stuff being in the state that it is.

I think they have long since abandoned the original intent of the project. Who cares about video over LAN anymore? Now it's Video over WAN, or more importantly, cloud to mobile device. And that works pretty darn well already.

I'm excited to try this new release. I will load some obscure videos from my collection to see how codec support is holding up. From the looks of the press release, they have a bunch of great features, some of which can take advantage of hardware acceleration. One big test of the new software is how well older platforms without the new hardware are able to keep up. Too many times I've seen codec libraries get slower and slower on old hardware as the features are 'improved' on more powerful hardware. If this newer version works as well as the old, I'll be impressed.
