Comment US Mail, UPS, etc have a Child Sex Abuse Problem (Score 5, Insightful) 150

You can send usb sticks with images with those services without them doing anything! How has this gone undetected for such a long time!

Also, dark alleys have a Child Sex Abuse Problem: you can meet there and exchange USB sticsk or other media without anyone routinely checking what is going on!

Comment Of course ... (Score 1) 26

but I wonder which attack vectors are actually used for Linux and how: for example if they try to make users download code, is this done via email as on Windows? Have they tried to infect OSS releases? Are they trying to hack into insecure public logins (ssh or console logins), do they attack apache servers, public databases?

The whole ransomware thing can only be successful if they specifically target Linux users where any of these attacks can be successful at least a certain number of times. So there should be a pattern, if they actually try to do this.

Comment What are the common ways of infecting a Linux sys? (Score 1) 26

I wonder what is known about how the Linux systems actually get infected with that. I am using dozens of Linux computers privately and for work and TBH was not too worried about this kind of thing so far, but I am getting a bit more scared now. I am not sure I would know how to best protect against getting infected.

Comment OK, stupid question: where exactly? (Score 1) 77

Never used Oculus but I thought it is a technology where one:
* pays for the device and software to display the VR on the device
* pays for the software that shows VR e.g. a game

So why the fuck should there be any ads anywhere? Or is this about some free stuff that can be used with Oculus getting ads placed in VR?

Comment Use one single, universal time zone (Score 1) 252

I mean going to a single time zone. So whenever something happens, it happens at one particular unique time.
This means that I may get up at 9:50 while somebody else may get up 4:80 (I am already using metric time here)
and we both see the sun going up when we get up.

Getting used to the specific range of time where the sun is up locally would eventually also have the advantage that times like
shop opening times can get adjusted much more easily and flexibly instead of having crazy timezones like in Spain, Venezuela or of course China.
