Found the Chamberlain employee! Garage door openers prevent the manual opening of the door, which provides a means of access control. Without an opener, one would have to put a lock on the door and many doors do not have one installed. Thus, one would need to get a retrofit kit or buy a new door. The functionality provided by the opener is much greater than the manual lock option, so it is a better use of. resources.

My uses of the system

  • Monitor the state of the door,
  • Remotely open the door,
  • Provide access to authorized users, and
  • Open the door when I do not have keys.

I originally got it so I would not have to take keys when I go for a run, but their app was not reliable enough to actually control the door. The HA integration is much more reliable than the myQ app, so taking away the HA integration is a definite loss of functionality. Yes, I know that smart door locks do exist, but at the time when I purchased the myQ system the smart lock choices were not very good.

Actually, that is offensive to a$$holes and I apologize for offending any a$$holes who might be reading this. Good thing my garage door opener is dumb and I was using the myQ add on. It can be replaced without having to replace the opener. Next thing on the todo list is to replace the hue hub
