Sometimes I wonder if the idea is to keep kids ignorant to take advantage of them. There's a lot of broken people out there.
I imagine that is part of the problem. I worked with kids for a number of years, where you had to have a background investigation. I'm CEO of a 501c3 now where potential members get a somewhat less intrusive background check.
But yeah, ignorant children can be a prime target. And nothing makes a parent think their child is safe with a man or woman of God that holds strong opinions about gays and all the other things that they hate. Except it doesn't quite turn out that way.
Full disclosure, I had a relative who was raped many times by a priest, so I'm perhaps a little biased. Especially when the priest was transferred to another diocese where, yes he found more butt buddy kids to bang. My cousin ended up a mess, but eventually found peace through suicide. In a major bit of irony, the Catholic church's dogma said my cousin went to hell, and all the priest had to do was make a good confession and act of contrition, and he was a shoo in to heaven.
So, I have very little patience for the Sandusky's, priests, pastors and people who jump quickly to accusing others of pedophilia of this world. Too many times their accusation is a confession. Allegedly...
