Comment "In advertising or marketing? Kill yourself." (Score 5, Insightful) 126

Bill Hicks: https://youtu.be/tHEOGrkhDp0

If anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself. [...] there's no rationalization for what you do, and you are Satan's little helpers, okay. Kill yourself - seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good, seriously.

No this is not a joke, you're going, "there's going to be a joke coming". There's no fucking joke coming. You are Satan's spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are fucked and you are fucking us. Kill yourself. [...]

I know all the marketing people are going, "He's doing a joke." - there's no joke here whatsoever. Suck a tail-pipe, fucking hang yourself, borrow a gun from a Yank friend - I don't care how you do it. Rid the world of your evil fucking machinations.

I know what all the marketing people are thinking right now too, "Oh, you know what Bill's doing, he's going for that anti-marketing dollar. That's a good market, he's very smart." Oh man, I am not doing that, you fucking evil scumbags! "Ooh, you know what Bill's doing now, he's going for that righteous indignation dollar. That's a big dollar. A lot of people are feeling that indignation. We've done research - huge market. He's doing a good thing." Goddammit, I'm not doing that, you scum-bags. Quit putting a goddamn dollar sign on every fucking thing on this planet!

Comment Always take the extra receipts! (Score 4, Insightful) 183

Another common low-tech scam in tipped restaurants involves the 'extra' copy of the receipt. The merchant copy is what you typically fill out with the tip, total, and signature. But if you leave the customer copy, an unscrupulous server can take that, fill it out with a larger tip, and file that one instead of the original.

So make sure to always take the extra receipts with you!

Comment Human overpopulation. (Score 0) 145

To prevent a 2C average increase and catastrophic tipping-point anthropogenic climate change, we need to emit less than 2.1 tonnes of CO2e per person per year in the short term, and 0 tonnes by the medium term.

Having 1 child averages 58.6 tonnes of CO2e per parent per year, 23.7 in poor countries, and 117.7 in rich countries like the USA (2050 vs life expectancy).

58.6 > 2.1.

We need to have a fertility rate of about 0.01 per person for several decades, or we'll turn the Anthropocene extinction into a mass extinction.

Comment Radiation map. (Score 1) 60

According to Windy.com (switch off everything except radiation), Chernobyl was at 192 nSv/h 2 days ago (see Sv).

Compare this to 480 (been around that for several days) just to the north near Brahin, Belarus.

The 2nd highest I can see is 283 at Tréauville, France (near the Cherbourg Naval Base).

Comment An eternal Treblinka. (Score 5, Insightful) 85

Not millions, but billions of animals are enslaved in torturous conditions on factory farms every year.

As for industrial fishing, it could be about 2 trillion fish that they tortured to death every year.

Factory farming and industrial fishing causes more pain and suffering than all other atrocities ever committed, combined.
