... Obama would just get rid of the alert system entirely. It was developed by GW Bush, and therefore is just fundamentally wrong. It just creates panic anyways ... it servers no real purpose ... nobody is going to hide in their bunkers or join a local militia if we go to the highest terrorist alert level, are they?

nope. i was not really comparing it to anything tho. i agree it's a good thing, and better late than never. i was just pointing out the irony that they are liberating data from THEMSELF ... it's like building a shed around your lawn mower, then realizing that you forgot to put in doors, so now you have to figure out how to get your lawn mower out!

Thus, asking how to make science popular I feel is the wrong question. The correct question is how to teach people it's value.

I believe that Science (like many other things) has been hi-jacked by politics. And since it's a given that people hate discussing politics they now hate discussing science too. The only way to make it popular again is to get politicians to stop hoarding it. Science should be for scientists and academia ... politicians should get their dirty little fingers out of it.

It turns out that the protection is far less than what is provided in OS X and the feature may not provide any protection at all.

the iphone in general contains far less than what is provided in OS X so this doesn't come as a surprise to me.

now, whether or not iphone 3.1 phishing protection is a big oversite on apple's part is another discussion and a worthy one at that
