Submission + - Manager/employee salary comparison. 4
pudknocker writes: I was recently tasked with negotiating with a contractor to convert to a permanent employee in the group of software developers I manage (FYI I have a development background with 20+ years of experience). The salient point here is that the top salary number I was given to negotiate with was 20% higher than my current salary!
This sounds to me like something that could only happen in professional sports and technology. My question is: is this a common situation?
In answer to your first question: I find it extremely unlikely I would get a 20% raise with my next review.
In answer to your second question: No, the maximum salary I offered was not enough to get him to convert.
(At least question #1 was more important to me than question #2).
