Comment Maybe they'll Fix the autorun.inf Functionality (Score 1) 160

Things like setting the Label and Icon for a thumb drive/SD card/removable USB drive.
Maybe they will plug the security issues without nerfing features some of us use regularly.

I miss the larger User Icon on the Start Menu!

Personally, I miss the customization that they removed from the OS after XP: Boot Screen, Start Sound, Icon and Cursor Choices, Screensaver and Wallpaper changing.

Yes, I know most of those things are still there, but not all and I miss the Control I had as a User to make my system truly Mine.

After all, what good was it to learn how to make my own custom icons and cursors when the OS strips out the ability to use them?

It was in line with fog lights and aftermarket Halogen "Blue Bulbs" used in headlights, so why not make the same ruling on the LED variants?
Blinding oncoming traffic is still illegal. Same as running your highbeams and/or fog lights when you shouldn't be. Just add these to the mix. Just make sure it gets Enforced evenly!

Simple Fact: Apple CAN unlock the phones.
Just because they currently Choose not to comply with law enforcement requests does not mean that the phone is "secure", it simply means that they won't make it easy for law enforcement! One law later, and it all goes up in the smoke it's made of.
Besides, criminals do it all the time. If they couldn't, then their wouldn't be such huge trafficking of stolen iPhones, and they wouldn't be targeted by thieves so much.

OK, there. I said it.
Now, make the law, or make your own unlocking tools.

Maybe they should try to get Rolls Royce to make their vehicles make noise, too.

I'd like to see them just TRY to get RR to add such a stupid feature to their cars.

Not going to happen, and RR are Famous for being silent running cars.

Quiet running is not the problem. Stupid pedestrians is.
Look up from your phone, people! Don't wear noise cancelling headphones in public, either! That defeats the purpose of the "hybrid hello" completely anyway, so why bother?

It was all about trashing the franchise for the sake of making a buck and no thought about the fanbase beyond milking them for moolah.

Seriously though, adding in a feminist agenda, nerfing the lightsabers, and killing off beloved characters in less-than-epic ways has all had a very cooling effect on fans.

The Mandalorian seems to be following the franchise formula, and it's working.

The last three movies? Not so much, and look at the numbers.

Maybe there's a learning experience here for The Mouse. Somehow, I doubt they will really listen, though...

As time goes by and people get more efficient methods of generating their own electricity, the local monopolies will eventually lobby for taxes against these methods.

Yes, they will start taxing the light from the sun and the wind that blows the air we breathe, sighting their right to profit from their monopoly.

They're all rubbing their hands together greedily as they wait for more electric cars to roll out and increase the demand for electricity, so they can jack the prices up based on that demand.

Needless to say, if people can generate their own with solar and wind power, that reduces their inevitable price gouging.

And they can't allow that! What will the shareholders say?

Comment Sounds like Big Oil is Desperate (Score 2) 86

If they can't block the cars, then they target the manufacturing process.
It's a lot easier to make a factory cleaner, as the systems are all in one place, and can be re-engineered to be a lot cleaner, while the electric cars are already in a much cleaner state.

Typical big business manoeuvring, though.
If you can't block them head-on, take out their supply chain and watch 'em starve.

Not saying that the process isn't less that ideal in it's current state. Probably quite a mess right now.
As technology progresses, the cleaner methods and system will be implemented, and things will improve.

In the technical college I attended, the MCSE program was a bit of a mess.
My instructor was a lot more savvy than most.
He did tell me, in order to pass the various tests, I had to parrot back the correct "wrong" answers to get the marks, but would need the Right answers once I made it into the field, as those would be what would actually work. That, and to pass the practical tests he set up for us that also clearly proved his point.
This, of course, made for twice the work throughout the whole thing.

It has been a couple of *decades* since I took those courses, and I am unsure if things have changed, or remain the same.

Either way, I could only get a minimum wage phone centre job as tier 1 tech support when I finished.
This area has been peppered with tiny little tech shops and computer stores due to the over-saturation of MCSEs that nobody could get the decent jobs that had been promised to us all when we signed up for the course.

Well, I guess it's back to the drawing board for the engineers, then.
Computers and cell phones seem a bit too advanced for them right now.

Here's hoping the marker fumes don't overwhelm them, and they can actually come up with something.
