It also comes down to scales of economy.
~328Million in America, ~25Million in Australia. Both are about the the same land area.
Factor in shipping costs to an out of the country, transport costs across the entire country and stocking/selling about 10% of what would be sold in America I am not surprised it costs a bit more. Also, a number of companies, I am looking at you Apple/Microsoft (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-03-22/apple-microsoft-grilled-over-high-prices/4587900?nw=0), have been known to gouge Australians with their prices.
