Lockdown isn't the right word. We haven't had a lockdown here for months.

The tourism situation isn't as bad as it might sound. Before the pandemic domestic tourism was already >50% of local tourism spend. Domestic tourism spending is increasing sharply because NZers don't want to travel overseas. A big part of the problem for tourism operators is simply that domestic spending is more bursty because of school holidays.

Yes, if there's no vaccine NZ will have some hard decisions to make. But it is much more likely that there will be a vaccine. Even a vaccine that's not very effective would still give us valuable options. E.g. if it only works for 80% of people, or only lasts for an average of three months, vaccinating everyone and then dropping border controls would still be much better than the kind of spread other countries have had to date; spread would be slower and cases less severe.

I don't have a problem with the gender swaps. They'll need to change a lot more than just gender to make the characters more interesting than the plastic characters Asimov wrote.

There's a looming problem for this series, which is that Asimov was a sexually-harrassing creep who would totally be canceled today, and deserve it. Maybe the gender swaps will help them dodge that.

This is a Trumpesque troll right?

The lockdown was definitely not worse than the disease. The "just get on with life" approach, let's call it "Sweden", kills and sickens a lot of people (not just old people), displaces other sick people from hospitals, and tanks the economy anyway because people are afraid to go out. In contrast, here in NZ after a short shock we have virtually no restrictions and no-one is afraid so normal life resumes.

If and when we have another case, we can reasonably hope for test+trace to contain the outbreak without having to lock down again. We shall see!

Asimov was well-known to be a sexually-harrassing creep (see e.g. https://www.gizmodo.com.au/201...). This even made its way into his writing; his dirty-old-man wish-fulfillment stories (e.g. Janov and Bliss in Foundation's Edge, Hari and Dors in Prelude To Foundation) were just embarrassing.

He was also a pretty bad writer IMHO. I enjoyed reading his novels for the plot and ideas, but his characters and language are tissue-thin. There are many much better works by sci-fi writers who can actually write well.
