Comment Government takeover of ISPs (Score 1) 64

Obviously, no one should be denied or given different pricing by being a member of these 'protected classes'. The headline here is BS. What is happening is a big push towards the FCC regulating the day-to-day activities of ISPs, in a great takeover. This supposed 'discrimination' is just an excuse of the executive branch to enforce its will upon US ISPs, and therefore the Internet as a whole, and should be resisted with vigor. I submitted an FCC document about this takeover as a story to Slashdot a few days ago, and it hasn't been acted on. see https://slashdot.org/submission/17304715/biden-administration-wants-fcc-to-basically-take-over-all-us-isp - yes, the federal government is coming for your Internet, even moreso than in 1996, and yet the forces that you would expect to resist it are notably silent. This will not be forgotten.

Submission + - Biden administration wants FCC to basically take over all US ISPs. (fcc.gov)

drwho writes: The government is coming for the Internet. All your old fears of Big Brother taking over? well, this is a major step in that direction. One FCC commissioner speaks out against the proposal.

The text of the order expressly provides that the FCC would be empowered, for the first time, to regulate each and every ISP's:

"network infrastructure deployment, network reliability, network upgrades, network maintenance, customer-premises equipment, and installation";
"speeds, capacities, latency, data caps, throttling, pricing, promotional rates, imposition of late fees, opportunity for equipment rental, installation time, contract renewal terms, service termination terms, and use of customer credit and account history";
"mandatory arbitration clauses, pricing, deposits, discounts, customer service, language options, credit checks, marketing or advertising, contract renewal, upgrades, account termination, transfers to another covered entity, and service suspension."

Maybe bitcoin started out innocently enough, or maybe it was some massive operation by the NSA or some other organization. But, the whole environment was ripe for fraud and fraud did come to it, to basically become the norm. I know a bunch of people who were pulled into it, some of whom had decent 'net savvy but not knowledge of how the real financial market operates. Some people, such as the guy who installed this insulation in my house, didn't have any practical knowledge and probably lost everything. I am happy that I bought a house instead of shitcoins and monkeypix. https://web3isgoinggreat.com/

If you live in a cold area, like I do, electric cars are simply not viable. No amount of gleeful articles or government subsidies will make them so. What's needed is significant advances in battery chemistry, without making the vehicles even more insanely expensive than they already are.

Sounds like Apple astroturfing, They get a few 'influencers' to bash Android phones and a few gullible children fall for it, some of them get their parents to buy them expensive iPhones.

I don't really know many kids, nor pay particular attention to what phones they are using. But out of the four I can think of, its split evenly, and none of the kids have brand-new expensive phones. Maybe it's because 5G doesn't mean shit in rural areas.
