Comment Re:Why exciting? (Score 0) 99

There is ZERO reason to add another runway at LAX. There are things called jumbo jets. You need more capacity add an aircraft, not at government expense mind you, that is twice as large. There is zero reason why a 787 cannot be used instead of a 737.

Need even more capacity? Let's see, there are things called regional airports. Long Beach, Burbank, John Wayne, Riverside, to name a a few are well within a much shorter car ride than having to make one's way all the way to LAX or a centralized HSR station.

Yes, it needs to be a centralized HSR station because guess what, if you have to stop every 5 miles for another station while in LA area you slow yourself down to the point of "Well I could have driven to Vegas faster" or "I could have already been there on an airplane.

And guess what? People have this strange penchant for wanting to jump in front of trains. Saw it a zillion times when I used to pick up my wife who commuted to work by train. Get in the car to run down to the station only to find out "Trains gonna be indefinitely late because they are doing a death investigation."

Trains are not a perfect for of transport.

Comment It's a lot more than looking up what homes are for (Score 1) 144

Only the most naive think a real estate agents only role is to locate a home.

If you are a buyer, the agent may help you with financing, inspections, hiring legal representation if necessary, spotting potential issues with potential homes and a long long list of other things they are probably a lot better equipped to handle than you.

If you are a seller, the agent shows your home, helps you hire contractors to fix it up prior to selling, verifies buyer's finances, helps find an escrow agent, helps you arrange promotional aspects (staging, photography, etc.) and a wide plethora of other tasks you would probably not want or be qualified to do.

While other countries may certainly have differing requirements for selling/buying a home the market determines what someone's labor is worth. Thus, 6% might seem outrageous for those outside the US. But it is what the market will bear. If you are not happy with the fee then negotiate it. There is no law fixing any commission. I recently bought a home and sold a home within a 3 month period. The commission's were different between the two transactions.

Yeah, You and my idiot wife just love to bring up that 25 year BS. People lived 25 years because of saber toothed tigers hunting them. The complete lack of antibiotics. Falling off a cliff because the rabbit they just shot got hung on an overhang. You want. me to go on? There are a billion reasons why they might have died at age 25 but what they ate was not it!

The promotion of a plant based diet is merely encouraging people to put more sugar into their diet. And sugar is nothing but a sweet tasting poison that is highly addictive.

Your caveman ancestors did not eat wheat thins and rice cakes. They ate rabbits, squirrels, deer, antelope and the occasional small fruit when they could find it. A long way from corn flakes for breakfast.

Facebook has alienated its' creators. Which has sent people scurrying in all sorts of directions, all of them away from FB.

Politics has moved off the platform to new venues who do not censor.

Comedy has moved off Facebook. Censorship again rears its' ugly head. Go woke go broke FB.

Discussion on independent websites has moved off the Facebook plugin to website's own internal discussion forums. Once again, far less censorship.

Short form video never even got going on Facebook. TikTok grabbed it before FB even knew it existed.

Long form video dominated by Youtube.

Young people have long since abandoned Facebook.

And now Facebook thinks businesses will use their "Meta" product? Everyone knows the level of intrusive spying Facebook does. As a person in business decision making environment you would have to be an idiot to believe Facebook would NOT listen in to your business meetings. Do you really want your business plans leaked because they were not woke enough?

And is Facebook so ignorant to think that 40 year old housewives are going to see any value in a 3D universe when these same women are struggling to make sure their little Jill's and Jim's make it to soccer practice.

Zuckerberg has zero idea how real Americans live, or how people in Egypt live, or those in Mongolia. He lives in his Silicon Valley bubble and has no children. He is clueless.

Facebook is on a downward spiral with the ultimate result a MySpace type crash and burn. The only real question remaining is the true angle of descent.

The bloody HMOs/Big Business/Insurance Co.s/Big Pharma. They are driving everyone crazy.

Why?

Because nothing can get done without a gazillion pointy-headed accountants looking over the shoulders of every doctor's decision.

Doctors have basically become rubber stamps doing the bidding of their "bosses." Is there any wonder personalized medical care no longer exists?

I certainly wouldn't go the extra mile if everything I trued to do for my patients was being over-ruled by a nameless conglomerate who certainly doesn't care about anyone.
