Yes, I think it's an exiting field where it's possible, thanks to tech, to finally hit some of the big banks and take revenue from them, be it by taking their customers, or their money when they buy you. I think it's one of the most exciting areas in tech, and I love the high regulatory barriers to entry, keeps the idiots away!

Not sure how you conclude this is undemocratic, I find the US, with voting maps re-drawing, popular votes, electorates and so on to be far more undemocratic, if democracy is assumed to mean that each person under the rule has an equal say.

PSD2 has helped secure online (card-not-present) payments in Europe by forcing all stores to use SCA (3d secure, verified by Visa etc). The additional SCA requirement in card-present transactions that recently came into effect will reduce the amount that can be lost as a result of a stolen or lost card, by forcing pin validation on every 5th transaction.

In the US the merchants are afraid they will loose business if the force SCA, so the only real way is through legislation, because then everyone has to play by the same rules.

Network location should not be an indicator of trust. The idea that a company is able to protect a made up barrier through which people and systems are constantly moving is ridiculous. It is possible to implement zero trust and that's the direction everyone should be heading in.
