Yeah, actually there are a lot of similarities. Both are super-Christian, both have temperate humid climates, and both nurse old failed civil wars as grievances and matters of honor. And they are both fond of guns. And both speak dialects that are often incomprehensible to outsiders.
Having been born in the USA Georgia and travelled extensively in the Asian Georgia, I can vouch for all of these fun factoids :)
You can, however, tell them apart by the fact that Republic-of-Georgia citizens, despite their history of Soviet mismanagement, are much better educated in general than our American ones. Also, their mountains are higher, and their brand of Christianity has more robes and incense.
