NO, absolutely not is this true of installing and setting up Bodhi Linux. Installing and using Bodhi is a breeze. And they have the most welcoming community I've ever come across (take a look at my UID and realize I've never browsed /. on anything but Linux to put that in perspective)

Claws is best, IMO. I've not had the freezing/crashing problems you mentioned. In face, the only problem I can think of is a corrupted address book once which was easily restored from backups Claws keeps within its own config.

I'd say that's some problem with Ubuntu, not Claws. I've been using Sylpheed/Claws ~10 years and never had that problem.

That's just dumb. Android is not a singular product made by a singular manufacturer. Sure, if you want to criticise one the the many companies who make products that us Android as the OS, then that's okay. And I might even agree with you. But to act like Android there's a singular entity behind making products that use Android is just silly.
