Good luck with changing the whole world jsut so they agree with reality.

FTFY.

And thankyou for the good wishes, it's my most fervent hope is that objective reality becomes the pervasive mindset of all of human kind. As you've pointed out, it's completely unrealistic to expect people to change and the easiest route would be to accept the delusion of general consensus as unchangeable. Unfortunately, I'm an idealist.

Here in the normal world its common for people to put there dollar values on things (subjectively), even if that value is not real

"It's common therefore it's right, even if it's not real" .. I like my red pill. It encourages critical thinking.

Ignoring reality in preference of a state of cognative dissonance is the acceptance of delusion. You're deluded, good luck with that.

There are tens of billions of dollars worth of Libre code out there

It's only worth money if somebody is capitalizing it. Assigning any dollar value to 'Libre code' is dissonant. It's free, ergo .. it's not worth any amount of dollars.

That doesn't mean it doesn't have value. It just means that the value isn't a dollar value.

My parents are playing games on iPads, my brothers in law, my sisters, niece .. the market is exploding because people aren't having to buy custom hardware.

The Nintendo name stll has a whole shedload of trust and their game designers are really very good at innovating. Quit worrying about canabilizing hardware sales and start focussing on software sales. The hardware ship has long since sailed and Nintendo missed the boat.

Failing to accept that reality and trying to push hardware will only lead them down the monopolistic failure route of Kodak. Too little, too late.

How could anyone take this paper seriously after a posting like that? The guy is supposed to know what he's doing and look at this list he's come up with?

5/12 of the products are from Apple. I'm surprised he didn't include polo necked sweaters and jogging shoes in the list :) Apple doesn't understand Software Libre at all. They're just a commercial firm trying to circle the wagons against competition and use IP to control the market for digital goods. Apple is turning technology into appliances and the WSJ are just a mouthpiece for marketing propaganda. You'd think that for his last article, the WSJ would let Walt write it himself, but no.. the marketing dollars from Apple are just too tempting.

Richard Stallman must be turning in his grave.

With all due respect, don't blame me for your problems. If you want to accomplish something useful, start ignoring the stereotypes.

Don't sit around bitching about how much time you spend trying to make yourself look good to men then complain when a company creates products to fulfill your obsession. Men aren't your problem, you are.
