It's an Education Technology app in the category of "Learning Management System'. Blackboard is probably the first popular one. Canvas is another that is really popular now. Google Classroom is another. Seesaw is targeted at lower grades. It's basically an app to organize assignments and resources and a place for students to turn in work. Seesaw also allows for parent communication.

Well, I got 3.5 years out of it and I only had one thing still connected to it. I have two big issues with how Wink is handling this: one-week notice and Wink service has never been great, but lately, it has gone down every week, it actually went down yesterday. So they are killing the service when I can't go to the store to replace it or Amazon may not ship a replacement within a week. The reason I only have one device connected is that the service isn't even reliable enough. I don't have the same issues with other hubs (Lutron and Hue).

Comment Regal and other theaters backing this position (Score 1) 285

Cineworld, Regal Theaters owner which is the second largest in the United States, backed AMC on this. I can't find the reference because of news sites copying and pasting the exact same quotes, but the ban is only for movies that do not respect the window. Also, Trolls wouldn't have made that much money if everyone wasn't stuck at home. If you are buying Trolls every 48 hours at $20 a pop to keep a child entertained, it will make a lot of money. If Universal really believed they can make money without the theaters, why would they push back the release of Fast & Furious? Universal has already walked back the initial statement some as well.

The article title is misleading. New York City is banning Zoom, so according to the author's bubble, all schools are banning Zoom. Zoom has actually made a lot of adjustments already changing the default to waiting rooms. As for your second point, under FERPA (US Federal law for student records and privacy), student names are considered directory information and can be shared. Only teachers actually need accounts to use Zoom. Unless you need to be worried about nation-states going after your info, this all seems silly. Most of the districts I've seen if they are not using Zoom, they are using Google Meet. This is mostly a cost thing. Google Meet was already free to education. Zoom stepped up and offered services to K12 for free as well and made it really easy to setup.
